Actors who have a go at directing (themselves in) turkeys

ska invita

back on the other side
High profile actors who get enough power to have a go at directing, usually keeping themselves in the lead role, and create spectacularly shite films in the process. A unique subgenre of film as it usually has a mix of ineptitude mixed with egomania and vanity.

Thread inspired by Steven Seagals one shot at directing, On Deadly Ground. Pretty much every scene in this has something wrong with it

I was trying to think of similar ones and the only other one I could think of was Kevin Costner's The Postman, which I remember left me with aching sides and tears of laughter. Havent seen it in years - I wonder what id make of it now.... Could make a good double bill...

I see he also directed another thing with him in it called Groom Lake - 2.3 on IMDB  Looks like a classic

Freddy Got Fingered is undeniably awful.
I could only manage five minutes of The Room.
Dare I mention Braveheart?

Clint Eastwood has made a decent stab at directing, but less successful at political speech-making ((invisible Obama))

I've seen Gran torino, Letters from Iwo Jima,Flags of Our Fathers, Million Dollar Baby, Unforgiven and to be fair they don't come across as hooray right wing prop pieces at all.

ETA: Having said that though I notice that on IMDB his last piece was American Sniper

Kevin Spacey Beyond the Sea

In which 45 year old Kev plays the teenage Bobby Darin. No, just no.

Nicolas Cage Sonny

Cage isn't in it much, but it is a piece of shit

I like George Clooney as a film star, but I find his films as a director deadly dull. I lost the will to live during Monuments Men.

May I just turn this around for a moment and mention that Drew Barrymore directed and co-starred in a film called Whip It! which I thought was great. Unfortunately it flopped and she never got to make another one, but she has potential to be one of the recent movie stars who become good directors (see also Sean Penn and Ben Affleck)
