A pocket-sprung mattress on a slatted bed base?

It's a shame you didn't have this problem a few weeks ago.
I recently purchased a new Superking size divan bed and got rid of 6"x6" worth of chip board (laid it down on a slatted bed for years with a pocket sprung).

Also, why are you looking at Ikea for mattresses?
The reason they rely on memory foam is that their beds are notoriously shit.

Have a look at Sleep Kozee.
Good value for money.

(Oops, just read you had already purchased an IKEA one).

The bed and mattress are LL supplied - we're just looking at getting a better mattress and taking it with us in the future - Ikea is a bit of a cheapy option but I'll be on the dole in a couple of weeks and can't really spend more than £250.

After years of increasing misery on a disastrous memory foam matress and divan base - yes it was hellishly hot and full of potholes, we decided to go for something really good, (after all I have MS and so badly need comfort to sleep at all, and I think we've got it right at last.

We have a small flat in central Paris and so badly need storage space. We saved and bought a Queen sized, modern solid oak bed base that is higher than usual - this helps me anyway - but the bed is also a huge chest of draws - 4 large draws on both sides and a considerable and very useful space in the middle that takes suitecases, blankets spare duvet vacume packed winter or summer clothes even tools. It's a good looking bed and so much more. I purchased top quality twin slat bases with closely spaced adjustable slats pegboard (for ventilation) on top under a firm pocket sprung mattress. The absolute luxury is our new all wool handmade French mattress topper, that really is something, it's a beauty! We turn the mattress each time we change the 19th c crisp linen sheets and bed is now bliss itself. Yes it was exspensive, but will last and was worth every penny!

I bought my bed 11 years ago from Litvenoff & Fawcett and got them to add 14" extra height to their standard size  along with their handmade pocket sprung mattress my bed is amazeballs!

It's just not big enough anymore :(

Rectangle of hardboard over the slats? It would rest on the slats, no need to fix it on (in case the mattress thing turns out to be salespeak) any weight on top would be evenly distributed over a large area and it would be firmer and more long-lasting than canvas. I think. Maybe.
i did something like this when I had a brass bed with just a metal network over it instead of slats, when the network started to rust . it was a well cheap bed mind, but the modification worked well.

Whatever you do don't put chipboard underneath - stops air getting to the underside of the mattress. Use perforated hardboard if your slats are too far apart, which they won't be at 2 inches.
Everyone says that, but I slept on top of chipboard for ~7 years and there wasn't anything wrong with the mattress at the end of that time. I'd simply chosen to get a bigger bed.
