One of my faves too. Its a myth that housing has to cost so much.

That house did cost a lot as I recall. Especially when you consider that it was his parents' land and he did all the bespoke design for himself for free. But yes, great house. I liked it.

Aren't there any building regs about getting out in the case of fire any more?

Yes and that's why it's got protected fire stairs.
