Hi "Mind"
That's what I thought. That a Christian Party would do far better in this part of the world than a Muslim-oriented party like Respect or the Left List. As it did, by far. Thanks for explaining why.

Also, this is what she told the Southwark News (a much better paper, by the way, than the South London Press) in an answer to the question "What one thing can you promise to bring to Southwark if you are voted in on May 1?"
Basically I agree with you that parties should appeal to everyone on the basis of their ideas not "ethnicity" (whatever that is) and that parties that target just one group (such as Respect, the Christian Party and the BNP) are just being divisive and counter-productive.

The reason I said that Katt Young's campaign was aimed at "the black vote" was that I seem to have been one of the few people to have seen her election address. In it there was a picture of her at some community centre alongside a rastafarian. And other material from the Left List (she also stood as a list candidate as well as as a constituency candidate) emphasising that she was an "Afro-Caribbean activist". See for instance:Don't forget that Left List is part of the Respect Coalition which to many Christians is a muslim party. I would bet that many pentecostalists would rather vote for the BNP than a Muslim Party.

From what you say, there would seem to be a need to explain each other's cultures to the two groups let alone to the rest of the population!Educational recreational and vocational training resources. Entertainment for parents to bring their kids along to and to educate the community about racial cohesion and explain the systems of afro-Caribbean and African cultures.(http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/londonelections2008/00,news,10205,10172,00.htm)
