Tell me tales of Totnes (a fortnight in March).

As someone who lives in Clapton, I find the idea of Slapton very appealing.

marty21 I think you frequent the Clapton Hart - have you heard any gossip about the old cinema building attached? :D

I don't know why they can't believe that when you consider eg the four aces club or the fate of the Georgian houses on dalston lane. The council has repeatedly shown contempt rather than concern for hackney's built heritage

...buildings at risk in Hackney.. We meet on zoom on 2nd Monday at 6pm. If you'd like to join us please get in touch. Can't believe that London Borough of Hackney has allowed the beautiful former Clapton Cinematograph built in 1910 to now look like this.. #hackney #heritage #london #planning

Dulwich Hamlet vs Bognor Regis Town, ILP, Saturday 4th January

...where confidence is key. Whether this is an indicator of the management attitude to his keepers where negatives played up at the expense of positives alluded to by Jack Ruddy I can only guess. What I will say is that can cause a keeper to become nervous. I know because I’ve been there with...

Hamlet v Carshalton Athletic (Isthmian League) Boxing Day 2024 (3pm k.o.)

...seem to be a competitive league that the club could enter, a league that benefit both the team and the player. Just comparing this with Clapton CFC where the men’s section also has a development team but they play in Sunday football. I cannot see that providing any benefit at all for Dulwich.

Bands with a big reputation that are (musically) shite

When has Bowie not had a backing band? And all his most celebrated music stuff has when he collaborated with brilliant musicians or producers like mick ronson or eno. And the spiders from mars were probably the greatest backing band ever.

Bands with a big reputation that are (musically) shite

...Zappa, Don Van Vliet, Mark E Smith, Peter Hammil and even Jim Morrison. This is why my ire is directed at David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. The first two might be great songwriters, the third a great guitarist but if you put them in charge of some brilliant people and they will...

ION, The Clapton Hart is re-opening at the weekend - I have walked past a few times - the bar area is much bigger and they have given the place a lick of paint .

Feeling like I am doomed to live in suburbia forever

A friend did sell her 2 bed flat in Clapton, she moved to Yorkshire and bought a 7 bed house (it was going cheap) she has since downsized to a 3 bed on the same street - the house cost about 1/2 of what she sold her 2 bed flat for.

Ever had a negative reaction to a political T-shirt?

...a picture of a rhino on the front. On the back was a large black 'PEOPLE UNITE'. A week or so later I was walking along the River Lea from Clapton to see a friend in Stamford Hill wearing the t-shirt. I heard something behind me and looked back. About 30 yards behind me a young white guy...

O'Neills central London pub adds £2 surcharge to pints ordered after 10pm

Aren't they owned by Antic? I think they're pretty much Antic's in-house beer.

O'Neills central London pub adds £2 surcharge to pints ordered after 10pm

I think the Antic pubs chain (what's left of it) had a tie in with Volden, it was on offer at the Clapton Hart (since sold by them) at a reasonable price, under a fiver.

O'Neills central London pub adds £2 surcharge to pints ordered after 10pm

When we go to our local, our round of a pint of Neck Oil and a pint of Carlsberg is £9 (not sure of the price of each drink individually), I'm still pissed off that it's gone up by 25p recently.

O'Neills central London pub adds £2 surcharge to pints ordered after 10pm

Sambrooks is nice, too. There's a pub in Bermondsey that does a pint of Volden for £4.30. These places are rarities, though.

O'Neills central London pub adds £2 surcharge to pints ordered after 10pm

I had a £4.95 pint in the Clapton Hart a few weeks ago, Sambrooks Pumphouse - so even in non-spoons places in London, you can still dip below £5.

General non league chat, match reports, photos etc

One for the referees here (Roger D 👀) - Clapton CFC Reserves had a penalty awarded against us on Sunday when the keeper (not myself) was penalised for apparent time wasting. Unless the rules have been changed I don’t believe that time wasting is punishable by the award of a penalty, only an...

Chris Kaba, 24, shot dead by police in Streatham, Mon 5th Sept 2022

...where her relatives lived, past a shop being looted and burnt out vehicles. I just happened to be passing the bus stop at the bottom of Clapton's 'murder mile' when she got off the bus in the middle of 'WTF' when she asked me for directions and I sort of assumed responsibility for her. A few...
