Feminism - where are the threads?

Umm. Not sure you get to speak for all of us. You are entitled to your own views of course, but my feminism is inclusive of my trans sisters, and when I talk, and have talked about feminism, it is from a position of inclusivity.

A celebration of Feminism - as a female what has it meant for you?

That's very true, but here's the problem with that as a 'Feminism for all women' thing - Feminism (in the career sense) has undoubtedly worked (to whatever degree you might think) for middle class women, but if it's only really worked for middle class women, and had little impact for working...

A celebration of Feminism - as a female what has it meant for you?

I certainly think there needs to be discussions early on about gender roles. Never thought about teaching feminism - it would be a hard thing to get on the curriculum unfortunately as no one would be able to agree on what sort of feminism to teach! But I'd say discuss roles, I'd say teach...

A celebration of Feminism - as a female what has it meant for you?

If feminism were to be taught at schools it'd be a completely tame, recuperated version with no challenge to capitalism in it.

Feminism - where are the threads?

These are assumptions and that is all. I came here to find feminists and those interested in feminism. I'm sorry the tran debate has ruined friendships and caused a schism on these boards and I would rather stay out of it.

    Is this woman a transphobe?

I am sure there are people on the GC camp who view trans people in a way that I personally think is transphobic, case in point, someone called Miranda Yardley who appeared on a debate about this on these boards nearly a decade ago. She is a transwoman who argued then (and this is from memory so...

    Curfew For Men

Thanks campanula agree with all you say, you put it well. Yes I recall going on RECLAIM THE NIGHT MARCHES in the early 80s - after the police told women to stay home when the 'yorkshire ripper' was at large. I was furious. Why was I told to stay home when I wasn't the dangerous one? Really angry...

Feminism - where are the threads?

...on UBI here. FWIW I'm on the highly sceptical side. Also in case you are interested a bunch of older threads (in some cases very old) on feminism. Oldy from 2002 but probably one of the best. Should men describe themselves as feminists, if they are supportive of feminism? (relatively...

Feminism - where are the threads?

Maybe a few of us should bugger off over there and continue the discussion killer b has the beginnings of, because yeah - that's a talk I'd like to have. (also, bugger off used in a friendly context here and not an aggressive one, just to be clear :D)

It was my understanding that he was taking particular interest in why feminism (mine?!) appears to have focussed on violence against women. It is the oppression of women because of their reproductive capacity that underpins...

Works of Feminist Theory, Philosophy & History

Feminism for the 99% also got alluded to by someone on one of the other threads, but you wouldn't have noticed without following the link. I've not read it yet, but was really impressed by a talk one of the authors Tithi Bhattacharya gave last year.

Feminism - where are the threads?

Of course male contributions to the main topic of the thread - Feminism - are welcome. The point is that feminism and related topics are worthy of lots more discussion, but it seems to me that good contributions to thread are not ones which substantially change the subject (especially to a male...

Men still not supposed to know about 'women's problems'?

The same reason the feminism one is. The OP is about attitudes not medical specifics. Even if it's being dragged that direction.
