    What film is this?

Exactly. This is what imdb says about it Would you know from that description that a replica Statue of Liberty features thriller?

Guess the film from the 42:00 screenshot.

I've been checking every Chaplin film of similar length on IMDB and still can't get it >.<

What DVD / Video did you watch last night? (pt3)

Good film, that. If I was him though, I'd have just stayed in the yabba. The education committee were taking the piss out of him anyway & when he landed in the yabba he soon got in with everyone he needed to get in with. If if was a choice between getting sent to teach in some outback school...

    Gravity - Alfonso Cuaron film

Utterly, utterly spectacular. See this movie on the biggest screen you can find, because the visuals truly are jaw-droppingly good. So much detail and veracity to it all. I didn't see a single shortcut or fudged effect. Breathtaking, honestly. Well cheesey script. Ignore that. Go see it a...

    How shit is 'The Hangover'?

It's ok, from what I remember... Which isn't much! I remember thinking it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's pretty silly though, but that's the point! edit: I gave it a 7 on imdb! So I must have enjoyed it?!?!

    The Straight to DVD Dungeon

Ive got one - Kazaam. This made a profit in the states based on the fact it had Shaq in it and despite terrible reviews but didnt get a release anywhere else. The set-up is classic bullshit: Shaq is Kazaam, a 5000 year-old genie who appears from a magic boombox to grant a boy three wishes. Dont...

At the moment they seem to be the only paper to have reproduced what is a week old story.

    What film is this?

I think I would given the faces on the poster. It would have rang a bell for me. But maybe it'S also because I am more of a movie afficianado than the OP.

Happy International Jazz Day! (30th April)

The BBC did a documentary on him in the 80s (I think) and his niece made a film..... (from wiki) Peterson's niece, television journalist Sylvia Sweeney, produced an award-winning documentary film, In the Key of Oscar, about Peterson in 1992.

    Gezi Park - Istanbul

Here's the full version of Ekümenopolis (with english subs) about the neo-liberal redevelopment of Istanbul under the AKP and Mayor Topbaş. I believe this film was really popular in The city last year or the year before. Description here. The IMDB description is a bit...wet.

Another vague film id request. Minnie?

Yes, but as she can't remember exactly what type of group the other lot belonged to (other than anarchist/terrorist), hard to know what to search for. As for the young people bit, she's already said it's not an American teen slasher type, so that rules out loads, but doesn't really help either :D

Are film franchises more common nowadays?

I'm really not sure what you are trying to prove here. Are you really suggesting that todays Hollywood is as creative and diverse in its output as it was in its golden age or in the 70s. It feels like you aren't quite seeing the wood for the trees with your number crunching. None of the films on...

    Horror Compendiums (films)

One of my favourite portmanteaux is Tales Of Terror, with three Edgar Allen Poe stories squished into a single Roger Corman film - and Vincent Price starring in each of them! The first one is a bit draggy, and the last one a bit grim, but the middle one, 'The Black Cat', is sublime, and has...

    Woody Allen 'genius' or 'shit'?

Most people who work in the film industry know nothing about film theory. I'm not saying that you are among them, but we both work in this industry and I too know what I'm on about. Some of my knowledge about the business side comes from work. However my knowledge about film theory is down to my...

Savile being used as a wedge issue to attack BBC independence

He would have to be to lie about this. Time will tell I suppose.

Savile being used as a wedge issue to attack BBC independence

Yes. We had a discussion (can't remember which thread) on his supposed glittering acting career that is somehow omitted from his IMDB page. And his YouTube channel is fruitloopery. Not saying that has any bearing on his allegations but tread carefully. Seems a self publicist/fantasist.

How to survive a disaster movie.

I did a list on IMDB of 70s'ish era disaster movies (sad maybe but I was bored at work) The golden age of disaster movies Apart from the Holy trinity of Towering Inferno, Poseidon Adventure & Earthquake, my favourites are the "nature strikes back" type films eg Kingdom Of The Spiders, Swarm &...

    Ernest Borgnine RIP

Just looking at Joan's bio on IMDB which states the family moved from Japan to California in the hope of improving the girls' health following recurring ailments. Looks like it worked since they've both lived into their 90s.
