+Tony P THANKS Tony! That's so awesome. Hard to believe this song has had such a long lifespan. Let's see... I co-wrote it with Michael Zager, who is a well-known songwriter, arranger and producer. Probably his hugest success was with the song "Let's All Chant" which has that much-sampled "whoo-whoo" disco vocal snippet in it. In the 1980s he lived in NYC (now he's a university professor in Florida) and we got together often to co-write, especially for his artist Patti Day. I think we wrote 4 songs on her debut album on Starway. Here is a Wikipedia page on Michael:
Michael Zager - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Back when we wrote the song, it featured a very Pop Chorus melody that went along with these lyrics: "Right before my eyes/Why didn't I see your love/Right before my eyes/I must've been blind/Right before my eyes/Why didn't I see your love/Should come as no surprise/It's right before my eyes." (If I remember correctly, since I can't find the bloody radio edit anywhere, hahah!) But as often happens, the remixers simplified the vocals, stripping away the majority of the lyrics and melodies, and when I heard it I was quite surprised with the results. But hey, I'm not complaining, cuz it was much more dance-able, I made some bucks on it, especially in the UK since the remixed version was more popular there than in the USA. Then years later in 1997, Michael called me from a cellphone in a moving car (back then cellphones were very large and very rare) and said that another song he was listening to on the radio had "borrowed" our Chorus melody, and was becoming a big hit. That song shall remain nameless, but maybe if we tracked down a copy of the radio edit of "Right Before My Eyes" you'd be able to identify it. Anywho, our song's publisher went to bat for us, they settled out of court, and I now own 1/3 of the rights to the other song, which turned out to be worth a lot more than the original Patti Day song. Go figure! What else can I say, except that I'm EXTREMELY grateful to all of you who have kept the song alive all these years later. I'd love to track down any additional versions or samples... I've heard the version by N 'n G feat. Kallaghan for example, but maybe there are more. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, and have an amazing New Year, Alex
