I don't know why but I always love these. Especially when it's something funny.

I also like the ones where the tune is a rave or early house classic and the vocalist isn't particularly well known, and they leave a comment and get really excited that people are still loving their tunes all these years later. :)

Post any examples you come across!

sounds like a Floetry sample...cant tell.... awesome

This one is pretty offensive, I think. Hard to tell with the differing meanings between "cunt" here, in the USA, and potentially in the gay scene(?).

Anyway...

BOY I KNEW & FELT IT THAT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE I WOULD HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS ONE !!! SO HERE IT GOES ........ WHEN A GAY BLACK MAN THINKS A MAN WEARING FEMALE CLOTHS OR MAKE UP OR IS JUST TRYING TO LOOK LIKE A WOMAN AND HE LIKES THE WAY HE LOOKS HE WILL SAY "OOOOH GIRL YOU LOOK SO CUNT" MEANING YOU LOOK LIKE A WOMAN . "CUNT" MEANS "FEMALE" GOT IT ??? HOPE SO :)

Anyone with more knowledge know if he's being a cunt himself here or if this is just different meaning?

ive come across a few - mainly on obscure old hardcore/jungle tracks - will bump this thread as and when ;)
They're the best ones..the obscure ones. Because they're not pimping for sales or doing some PR or something. They're usually answering questions about what they're up to now, or a sample used or something.

And yep, I know this thread is gonna be a "bump as and when" one. :)

We (JOE LEWIS / TARGET RECORDS CHICAGO) wants to thank (all) of you. This is truely "JOE LEWIS" posting this post. Some have wondered if I truely did this with LARRY HEARD, YES, Larry did have some part to do with this. I'm returning to the "HOUSE MUSIC" game. P.S. I would never release on (any) bootleg record lable "Booton" hint, just thought you should know, you can always email us @ [email protected].
Not sure about this one. Sounds like the label, but maybe not JOE LEWIS himself. Dunno, might be, but feels a bit fishy somehow. Anyway, great record:

I wouldn't trust anything Joe Lewis has said as he has previously passed off other people's work as his own.

having watched 6 series of ru pauls drag race i am something of an expert and think its very likely true what he says.

This is a huge tune on which the original Landlord from 1989 commented.

Landlord says: "Hey Belfane83......thanks so much man for the compliment...i'm back and better now baby! This ain't no joke, really am Landlord and the compliments on here mean a lot to me...Still living in Toronto/Canada New album is off the chain...produced by yours truly Remember the name...The Lee Project...A.k.a...Landldord"

Thanks for the comments, I co-wrote this song back in the day, and don't even think I still have the vinyl. DYING to find the original POP mix, the way we originally wrote the melody before the remixers chopped it up. Funny story of what happened with that! THANKS for any info in tracking it down! Alex

+Alex Forbes Please share your story? :) This vocal has been used many times in other tracks and versions of this are still filling dance floors today. Well done!

+Tony P THANKS Tony! That's so awesome. Hard to believe this song has had such a long lifespan. Let's see... I co-wrote it with Michael Zager, who is a well-known songwriter, arranger and producer. Probably his hugest success was with the song "Let's All Chant" which has that much-sampled "whoo-whoo" disco vocal snippet in it. In the 1980s he lived in NYC (now he's a university professor in Florida) and we got together often to co-write, especially for his artist Patti Day. I think we wrote 4 songs on her debut album on Starway. Here is a Wikipedia page on Michael: Michael Zager - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Back when we wrote the song, it featured a very Pop Chorus melody that went along with these lyrics: "Right before my eyes/Why didn't I see your love/Right before my eyes/I must've been blind/Right before my eyes/Why didn't I see your love/Should come as no surprise/It's right before my eyes." (If I remember correctly, since I can't find the bloody radio edit anywhere, hahah!) But as often happens, the remixers simplified the vocals, stripping away the majority of the lyrics and melodies, and when I heard it I was quite surprised with the results. But hey, I'm not complaining, cuz it was much more dance-able, I made some bucks on it, especially in the UK since the remixed version was more popular there than in the USA. Then years later in 1997, Michael called me from a cellphone in a moving car (back then cellphones were very large and very rare) and said that another song he was listening to on the radio had "borrowed" our Chorus melody, and was becoming a big hit. That song shall remain nameless, but maybe if we tracked down a copy of the radio edit of "Right Before My Eyes" you'd be able to identify it. Anywho, our song's publisher went to bat for us, they settled out of court, and I now own 1/3 of the rights to the other song, which turned out to be worth a lot more than the original Patti Day song. Go figure! What else can I say, except that I'm EXTREMELY grateful to all of you who have kept the song alive all these years later. I'd love to track down any additional versions or samples... I've heard the version by N 'n G feat. Kallaghan for example, but maybe there are more. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, and have an amazing New Year, Alex

+Alex Forbes I know the song you're talking about from 1997. It was a UK Garage hit around then in the hight of the UK Garage scene. I'm from London, England and so was one of our faves back then. Thanks for sharing your story, very interesting :)

+Tony P So great, thanks a zillion for this. Please tell your DJ friend THANK YOU for me. Make my day! Meanwhile if you know any great DJ-remixer-producer folks, I'm always psyched to chat with them (worldwide on Skype) cuz I've got songs that might be great for a remix... I could send them an acapella version and see what they come up with! Most recently I've had some success on the Club Charts in Australia. They really know how to go out dancing there apparently. Stay in touch and ENJOY, Alex p.s. Here are my websites: http://alexforbesmusic.com http://creativesongwriter.com

+Alex Forbes Alex, I'm the guy who did the house mixes with the added piano track. My direction from Starway was to make it an "urban club record" which I did my best to do. I had no problem with the record as it was, but 1988 house had a definite theme, which this fit into quite nicely. No offense intended. It was huge in Europe, especially the UK. I've taken great pop records and made them big club records lots of times, it was kind of my forte, so I'm used to original songwriters hating me. B) Funnily enough, after Patti's record did pretty well, the Starway records guys asked to meet with me in NY. I walked in and they said "You're Bruce? I thought you was a black fella!" They then proceeded to tell me "no white guy can make an urban record." at which point I walked out of the meeting. Never saw them again. This is me: http://www.discogs.com/artist/34859-Bruce-Forest

+Droopus Tunes Thanks, Bruce, you made our song sound great, much more "club" than the Pop mix. Certainly no offense on my part, it never would've gotten that far without your contribution. Plus I made a few bucks on it. Hope you did too! Those guys in NY sound like idiots, glad you walked out. I only wanted to dig up a copy of the Pop version cuz there was a legal issue with another song that lifted the same Chorus melody, and I wanted to hear the 2 songs side by side. But after the vinyl age ended I put my records in a box, then moved a few times, and could never find a copy of the radio mix. (They settled out of court and I ended up owning 1/3 of that other song, which was a bigger hit than RBME ever was.) So are you still making music?! Hope so! Alex

+Alex Forbes Awesome discography!!! That's why your name rang a bell, hahah. I remember back in the day hanging out with Shep Pettibone, David Morales, Junior Vasquez, Tony Moran... staying out in studios and clubs all night. I miss that life, but now I guess I'm a bit more "settled down." Still writing songs — in fact if you or anyone you know who can do a killer remix I have one special song that would be ripe for it... wrote it with Valerie Broussard who's a great person and whose voice absolutely slays me: Welcome Alex

AWESOME post Tom B. Love shit like this.

Used to came the 97 garage remix outside the school gates in my nova (I was 17!) :D

And Bruce Forest is a proper face:cool: One of those names that pops up everywhere when doing a bit of digging

Yeah, Forest is a legend.
He's just popped up out of the woodwork and done an amazing mix reviewing legendary NY party Better Days for Test Pressing:

this tune was a massive tune in the 90's and the general misconception has been that it was a michael jackson sample and i think its time i put an end to this.the vocals on this track are mine and not michael jackson's.there was an interview on kiss fm in 1992 to confirm this.im not sure why i waited this long to correct this but im puttin it on my profile cos it is my work and i deserve the credit.

Isn't Bubbles the name of MJ's chimpanzee?
Perhaps that's how the confusion arose.

Great post :)

If I remember correctly the first pressing of that Patti Day track had a popping/click sound error in the first breakdown. Might have been the white label but was fixed for the commercial release. Brilliant song :)

Quite a boring one this, although I like that the guy's just happy that people like his music

ok I was the leader of Salt --new Orleans --recorded at Cosmo recording studio at 3am in the morning ..Remember the break taking many many takes w Bill Crosby getting frustrated-this is and was a very obscure group--listed in Off Beat magazine as one of the top 20 funk bands to come out of new Orleans. We knew the horns were slightly out of tune but left it cause it gave it a garage sound that went with the rest of the tune--the flip side I Cant Believe was also good with the lyrics--only 45 I know left is owned by trumpet man Rob Logan--it was rumored that managers destroyed thousands of em to increase value--this one is really cherished since Chocktaw was Cosmo Mantassa's label. and he recently passed.--members of this Salt band was Buddy LeBell on sax, Rob logan on tumpet, Bill Crosby on drums, Paul Daigle on bass Mike Frass on keyboards and AJ Belletto on guitar -

I am one of the authors of this song. I wrote the lyrics and communicated with the Italian Producers at the time. I was 20. The song is about my daughter. The producers had music but needed the soul of the American Background singers and my lyrics to bring their music to life. This is the truth. My name is Tanyayette Willoughby. Google my name and you will see that I am the real deal. Peace!
