Writing a book? Tips and Advice.

I know Urban has had a few authors over the years so am interested in picking your brains.

I'm considering writing an academic book. I have the material and some initial interest from a reputable publisher. I'm at the filling out a proposal stage.

Any tips/advice from people who've been through the process?

No direct experience of this whatsoever but I think "be prepared for it to take three times as long as you think it will" probably applies.

Still putting the proposal together. Need to flesh out the Contents with a precis of each chapter - and ideally attach a sample chapter (which I have but it needs comprehensive editing). The "author bio" bit is also a bit of a stumbling block, not great at bigging myself up!

...but it is progressing.

Update: This is going well. Very well. It's gone through peer review and am awaiting a formal contract offer from a major academic publisher.
