Wiggins in hospital after crash with van

All I'm saying is that I am not convinced roads should be used for racing on, regardless of the method of transport you are using to race.

I ride like every cunt in a car is out to get me. Best way. Keeps me safe. Yes.

Predictable and Assertive. I chant this to myself every morning. Interspersed with "shitshitshitshitshitshitshit" when, for, example I'm coming across the lanes at Parliament Square.

They're not racing. Racing is banned on the roads, unless they're closed off etc. It's one of the reasons why we've historically been so shit at cycle road racing and do well at time trialling.

As a recent cyclist, I've noticed pedestrians being almost as much of a hazard as drivers. At least drivers are forced to somewhat respect road rules.

Where would competative cyclists train if not on roads? I live near Richmond Park so thats handy for people who live around here but its pretty unique and there are still cars around.

Motorists should drive their cars around BMX tracks and see how the fuckers like it then.

I have to agree that there isn't a straightforward answer. But I don't think that detracts from the central point, which is that public highways are not really intended to be a racetrack.

It's a bit of a subtle difference though. Going as fast as you can is going as fast as you can, regardless of whether or not you are doing it toe to toe.

Also, if you saw the weekend amateur pelotons we get round our way, you'd see that racing might be banned but it still most definitely happens.

I'm going to go out right now and twat the next person I see riding a BMX.

I'm so angry.

Look, angry face.

Roundabout at Paddington for me :(

Where are you heading? If it's anywhere Eastern I really suggest you (take a slight diversion and) go south through Hyde Park and along the Embankment - struggled with the hi route through Paddington to Chancery Lane too often and the new (lo) route is a breeze (Parliament square on the way back aside!)

They should tell that to a lot of car drivers - including the ones who approach me in side streets with parked cars either side at excessive speeds and expect me to dive out of the way.
The appropriate speed in these circumstances is that of the slower / more vulnerable road user.
"but I was only doing 15MPH" ... why were you looking at your speedo ?

Where are the police kabbes? Where are the bloody police? They should be bang up on this.

Yes, those drivers are also in the wrong.

I don't think that changes the issue about racing on roads though.

You mean the two police that serve the whole of Mole Valley?

I think they're too busy trying to catch the speeding motorcyclists on the A25.

I can see that maybe a strongly-worded letter is in order.

Finsbury Park. So go along the Marylebone Road, cut through Regents Park then Camden Road/Seven Sisters.

To be fair to Kabbes I've seen some sights in Lycra of a weekend myself. It's not a good look for a middle-aged paunch.

To be totally srs for a second <-- srs face, there is also an issue with clothing.

About 50% of riders wear nice bright clothing, which is great. About 30% wear stuff that isn't too bad. But about 20% wear black or some other dark colour. In the summer, you tend to go in and out of shade a lot under the trees, and a cyclist wearing black is frequently all but invisible during those transitions. If you're out cycling, don't wear dark colours!

I'm suggesting that a pack of out of shape middle managers on £1,500 bikes in full on cycling team kit bearing down on you would probably be quite annoying. And a bit mentally scarring.

Our local bike club have racenights on Castle Combe circuit. It's no wonder they develop bad habits.

I'm going to go and ride sensibly and safely with a full set of lights an reflectors, so I can set a good example.

Welcome to my life.
