Why all of a sudden a different ball?

weltweit

Well-Known Member
They play all year, year on year with their normal balls...

Then they go to the world cup and all of a sudden they have to play with a new ball...

What is that all about?

There are complaints about the ball Every. Fucking. World. Cup. At least within my living memory. This isn't anything new.

i rest my case

The goalies usually complain but now the outfield players have been too which doesn't happen.

I just think it is bizzzare. We want to see the best players in the world playing their best football. So why not let them play with the equipment they are used to.

Introducing a new ball, at the last minute just seems to me to be a way to complicate things.

Agreed, its cause they want more goals but i bet there's no real difference and it just causes some annoyance instead.

Do you really care about this ?

I know there is already a Thread about it.
Because i have posted on it !

Do we have to be passionate about all of our threads?

You certainly seem to have an issue with me tonight, do you really care?

I looked in two forums to see if there were any threads about the new ball, I didn't see one so I started a thread.

Is that a crime?

I do not give a shit a about the new ball.

Yes I do care, I think introducing new equipment at the last minute is likely to spoil the game.

Imagine if the players had to wear new world cup boots, there would be an outcry, yet the ball, that is somehow different.

I bet Beckhams ability to curl the ball over a wall of players into the corner of the net is based significantly on how the ball flies through the air, this new ball flies differently and he and his ilk have hardly any time to learn its new charachteristics.

Do the new balls get used after the World Cup in Leagues then or are they purely a marketing gimmick that get used once every 4 years?

I do not believe you.

Beckham is not playing in this World Cup.

The players are not being asked to wear new boots.

You spelt that wrong.

But you do care.

Both of your other Threads,
In which you think,
I have "issues" with you,
Have been closed.
It's not personal,
So,try not to make it so.

No, I am not saying I don't care about the topic of the thread.

I was saying I don't care about your comments below which I don't see as contributing in the slightest to the topic of "the new ball".

You have also said the same thing,
On your third attempt of another Thread,
On another issue.

The first two of my three comments,
On this Thread,
Are relevant.

Ok, your first two comments..

This one:

It's like you issuing,
A salvo of questioning,
New Threads.

I often start a thread with a question. Is there a problem or a rule that says this is not good? I don't think so.

and #2

I have already dealt with this.

Yes I think the late introduction of a new ball will likely spoil the quality of the football.

You are being a bit naughty with this post.
And you know it.

Second & third sentence,
Of Post 14 on this Thread,
Is what i was referring to.

Again,
Try not to make this personal.

Players like Becks who curve the ball, who make it move in the air will have quickly to come to terms with the characteristics of the new ball. Perhaps they can perhaps they will not have the masses of learned experience that they have in their current balls. Plus players who play tricks with the ball, may also have to re-learn how the new ball behaves. I just think it is unnecessary.

New boots, no they are not being asked to wear new boots, that was my example to show a situation which people would likely think a step too far. But the boot and the ball together make the kick and together make or do not make the magic that can be football.

One commenter said "marketing" sadly I think this is the primary reason there is a new ball. After the world cup the company that makes the new ball, I forget which, who has paid handsomly for the privilidge of supplying the world cup ball, will make millions from the worldwide sale of the new ball. Perhaps it may be a better ball, my only complaint is its introduction so soon before the world cup so players do not have enough time to learn its characteristics.

Changing the ball is a pain in the arse. But they are not going to scrap thousands of footballs...... think of the children who made them!!!

The match replica's go for £60....the kids all want them.

Its nothing more than a marketing ploy to make more cash out the world cup... esp as the ball is being mentioned a shit load.

Replicas this year are £80 plus.

Has any Adidas sponsored player come out and criticised the ball?

The 'controversy' is created by the media who ask the players what they think, the players are suspicious of change, especially when they've mastered the old ball and it earns then millions a year, and the media has its story.

Better the headline says: 'World Cup Shock: Technology advances!'

But is it new technology for new technology's sake?

I'm no luddite, but change does not necessarily mean improvement.
