This came up on FB and I've never heard of it before: Volunteer, 6 Beehive Place, Brixton, London SW9.

I'm guessing it was where the Craft Bar is now?

I see there was an "Industry Terrace" next to it too.

I'll have to add this to my 'lost pubs/clubs' feature. Along with the 414 :(

I think this is more likely part of the small streets demolished to make way for the Brixton Rec.

yes, now under the Rec - 1950 OS map here

It's a really unusual design - almost looks Scandinavian/modernist and the shutters are a bit unusual for a pub.

yes. I'm usually keen on 1930s architecture, but not sure this was a great example. the bit stuck on the top (as an afterthought?) doesn't help matters...

Light fittings are great though. Nice bit of Art Deco. Tres moderne.

and :) at the lettering on the drawing

and at the beehive in the decorative thingy

and at it being a 'B H' not a 'P H' (although it was a PH by the 1950 OS map)

When the Brixton Rec was designed and then built there was a pub in the Rec. I vaguely remember it. It overlooked the swimming pool.

Was told it was partly to replace pub lost when the Rec was built. This makes sense now.

Its definitely on the Brixton Rec site.
