What are you playing at the moment?

I bought the directors cut of Death Stranding with the PS5 update last night. It looks great, but I'd forgotten how many cut scenes there are. I think that's why I didn't get far with it last time. In the first hour I managed about five minutes of game play  :D
It's worth sticking with imo. Not for everyone but it's probably one of my favourite games ever.

I played a lot of slay the spire but in not very good.

Bought a few things in the steam sale.

Mafia Definitive Edition - I wasn't sure if I'd like this, but the remake is really well done. I missed it the first time around and I've actually enjoyed it a lot. The amount of detail of a 1930's city was great and convincing. I grabbed the second one before the sale ended.

Plague Tail Requiem - I enjoyed the first one and will start this once I finish the first Mafia.

Wreckfest - Remember destruction derby? This is basically a new version of that. Again I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but I've enjoyed it quite a lot. It's fun to dip in for a race and then you've played for a couple of hours. Can't say it's perfect, but it's probably a racing game I've enjoyed the most recently. Think I've learnt I like arcade racing games rather than simulation.

Inscryption - Another deck building Rougelike. Only played an hour but I think it'll be a good one.

Yeah I'm enjoying it so far, I'll just have to make sure I have a couple of hours free whenever I want to play it. I'll probably be one to get stuck into over the Winterval break.

At the other end of the scale I recently finished Dave the Diver which was great if you just wanted a quick play of something.

Downloaded the Mafia III game too - looks more up my street than anything that's come out recently. I seem to have run out of road when it comes to games. Serves me right for being so narrow in my tastes. Maybe it's for the best though as they're a massive timesuck when I get into them and I have a lot of books to read and films to watch

Yeah I liked Dave the Diver though my interest wained towards the end. Have you played dredge? Feels like those two games scratch similar itches.
I was the same towards the end too. I still have a few side quests to do, but I'm not fussed about doing everything now I've done the main story.

Dredge is on my list to do :D It's on sale now so might get it

Yeah Ive played a bit of it recently. Kind of given up though. Not sure why. I liked it but it all got like hard work.

Trying out the new Indy game. Not sure what the fuss is about with performance and graphic detail is - at "high" settings it looks okay and performs just fine. AIUI, Ultra++ doesn't look much different - fine, but not stellar - but will grind your machine into dust for the pleasure. For reference, I'm a Ryzen 7600, 3060Ti, 1440p. It's very Uncharted, which is okay so far as guided stories go but I don't think it's special beyond the fact that it's Indy.

Finally finished the Mass Effect trilogy after starting at the beginning of November. Now I'm going to give Baldur's Gate 3 a proper go - last time I never finished chapter 1. It sucks time though - you think you've only been playing for a little while, and suddenly two hours have passed.

I've only just started it myself and it's hard to block off a few hours to coherently get anywhere in the story. It's quite unrewarding to play in small bursts. So I end up playing Indy instead for 15 minutes.

Climbed the tower on slay the spire for the first time! I thought I wasn't quite getting it but I had a run where everything clicked. Very satisfying.

I'm approaching 4k hours on Steam now. I don't think I'll ever get the barbs out.
I only play Ascension 20 difficulty for petulant ego reasons so my win rate is probably worse than 1 in 20 :D

It took me about 50 attempts to play through it once so... :D I think ascension is only opened after you compete it with the first 3 characters is that right? I try to avoid it on Reddit as I want to do it on my own.

I've been playing Manor Lords in early access on gamepass. medieval town builder with some kind of RTS element.
its... ok. I would wait for it to get more development.

Being fair it's been one person developing it and they've used the early access money to hire some more people so this is early access working as it should do, providing some funding for indie devs to finish games.

It's very slow, even on the fastest speed, which is intended. It's systems didn't interest me enough to expand from one town to multiple towns in different provinces where I can see that managing the different places it would be better to have things moving slowly.
The actual town building is nice though and as a town building sim rather than a resource management/engine building game I think it's good but it's not sandbox enough - the resources you have in each region are restricted so you can't setup all the production chains in one place, so it falls flat a bit there.
as a resource management/engine building it just needs some more development and variety I think.

The RTS side is not something I even tried playing as it just seems to take too long to get enough money to hire mercenaries or enough people/weapons to build an army to fight the NPC players that I never got interested in doing it and played without them instead in a peaceful setting. I don't know if it will ever have enough depth as an RTS over things like total war to make this aspect of the game worth doing but it obviously does add something to the game, and looking online other people definitely get into it.

Finished the DLC for Witcher 3 now. It's just the best game ever. Not sure what to follow it up with really.

Anyway, Witcher 4 incoming:

Ive just installed Steam for the first time! I heard about the Obra Dinn game and am going to try and play it with family over Christmas (hopefully can solve stuff together...I always get stuck on these kinds of things anyway).

I'd appreciate finding out any trigger warning themes in the storyline, particularity if there is any racism/slavery and sexual violence/rape... anyone know?

I only played an hour of it to get a feel for it. There is violence but not anything to intense that I can remember. Might be worth asking on Reddit.

I plan to go back to it as I didn't understand it at first so want to go back with a better understanding.

The Plucky Squire.

It has obvious influences - the recent updated Link to the past, Mario Odyssey, even Baba is you. But it's just so darned CHARMING - I've gasped with delight a few times - and I've had a great fat smile the whole time. If you can pick it up cheap I'd heartily recommend it. It's fun, innovative, beautiful and wholesome. And it's pretty funny.

No really, there is violence including murder and and an execution, but if you have seen the graphical style it's not exactly graphic.

There are some dark twists I'm the story and while there is no rascism as such, race plays a part in understanding the story and solving the puzzles.

I don't really want to say any more as it could ruin the experience. It's a great game you should play it.

I will leave you with one clue though.

Anyway

I'm playing bith Stardew Vally and Elden Ring again. So much time in both those gamrs. Two of my comfor games to play while listening to a podcast or something.

But this time I will get perfection in Stardew!

I tired the Indian Jones game as it is on game pass. I don't think it's quite for me so don't think I will be carrying on with it, but can see why others like it.

No, like I said there is some dark shit in the story but no slavery.

I have put the closest thing I can remember to what you are worried about in a spoiler. I've been as vague as possible but still read at your own risk.

Someone gets executed becuase someone else deliberately mistranslates what they say.

is it out? how did I miss that?

I've been playing There Are Billions. I like it, even if the gameplay is quite repetitive
It is indeed! And they are all utterly broken, it's magnificent. Teleporting round right next to enemy lords to give 'em a good crumpin'.

Yeah, Malakai and Esmerelda or whatever her name is were the same last time. I do love TWWH3.
