The campaigns in China and the Pacific were truly horrifying as were the Burma campaign, and the fate of many prisoners of war alongside Chinese, Korean and other civilians and soldiers. The fire bombing of Japanese cities brought mass death and horror, culminating, as everyone knows, in the use of nuclear weapons at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
We should all remember this day and the lives lost and lives blighted.
