Underage Players In Veterans Football....

So we lost our over 40s cup semi-final on Saturday afternoon, 1-1 AET, 5-4 on penalties.

It's since transpires that 2 of the opposing team were significantly younger than the rules allow, as you need to be 40 on the October 1 of the season in question, i.e. last October. Our manager has lodged an appeal with the AFA.

Can't decide whether I think that's right or not. Thoughts?

For a pretty close result I think it's fair to consider.

You say they were 'significantly younger then the rules allow' but then go on to mention that you needed to be 40 since last October. How old are they?

If they were over 40 when they played the match but not on October 1 it could be a reasonable mistake and you'd be pushing for a technicality.

If they are still under 40 then they clearly know they're not eligible and it's a bit of a piss-take and I wouldn't feel too guilty about lodging an appeal.

One 36, one 37. Thing is we play in over 35 cups too and it's a notable difference. In mind, I'd originally thought it was a bit petty, but I'm 44, and the bloke I was marking was 8 years younger..

Sounds petty, but you're right to object.

Imagine a team of 8 year olds vs a team of newborns....makes a huge difference!
