Train spotters - Steam Train going thro Brixton

Morning one more likely to be on time !

They tend to run late being "specials" (normal service trains get priority in the event of late running so they get "regulated" accordingly - thats railway jargon for "prioritisation" )

Should be nice and atmospheric though ..........

I think it was this one i saw on wednesday going through Herne Hill. I'd just come out of the dentist and it gave me a nice lift. Something quite impressive about steam trains.

Nice one

Took my Thomas-obsessed toddler along to see it go through Herne Hill on Saturday morning - he's hardly stopped talking about it since...

Well I went down there with a mate (to Brixton stn.) and it came thro at about 8.15 p.m. We thought maybe we'd have to wait ages longer or it had been cancelled ?
Then suddenly - that unmistakeable sound - cuffachuffachuffachuffa...WOOAWOO!!
I went pelting back down the platfom to my friend, squeaking it's coming !! and the guys in the engine room must have been surprised that there were people down there waving at them like mad people !
The train was packed.
I am now a confirmed (steam) train spotter and am gonna go down there again when a steam train passes thro' :) it was great, it made my heart sing !

I know how he feels ! It's a lovely thing to take a kid to (and is free). hope you saw the website above in my 1st post where they list the trains and their journeys.

Given the rates they charge for the excursions, maybe they could pay Brixtonians to dress up in character:

Yeah my mate was gonna rip her skirt off a la Jenny Agutter - luckily she decided not to cos at first she mistook a Diesel train for the steam train :D

One of my fave classes. There's one sometimes comes past my place on Leeds-Carlisle runs, I think

Preferred the Stanier 2-8-0s tho

Sorry to be anorakish - but for the priniples of correctness.....

You would not have normally seen a Black 5 or a Stanier 2-8-0 on the old Southern Railway....

Who cares - its great to see a working "kettle" on the main line ! :)
