Traffic light spotters only

supercity

Back, and readjusting
I was reading the thread about tonight's closure of Brixton Rd, and Minnie raised something about the traffic light sequence that I've noticed, but seemed tasteless to insert into a thread where someone had died.

I've noticed in the past few weeks, on my morning constitutional to the tube from the Hill, that the traffic lights have been screwed about with.

Normally, as a pedestrian heading north, when the lights turn green at the town hall you can, if you march at full speed, make it in a diagonal to the middle of Brixton Road. To the second. Recently, there's been an extra 30-second or more gap till the motor traffic lights turn green. I've noticed a lot more pedestrians as a result take the chance and cross the main road, where formerly they might have waited.

Has anyone else noticed this? Or should I check myself into some special accommodation?

I've noticed this too - particularly crossing from the traffic island to Windrush Square.... normally I see the traffic from Brixton Road start to move, so I wait.. now, there is enough of a gap for me to go all the way. I'm fast on my feet, so I take the risk.

Yeah, me too. Several times over the past few weeks I have had to pull out of Blenheim Gardens while the lights are red as it just won't go to green. Really dangerous especially if the loading bays are occupied as you can't see what's coming until you are in the road.

Red phase going north is certainly longer, the traffic is badly queued up past the fridge at the moment.
It never used to back up after rush hour in the middle of week days.

Its only going to get worse as the high street is dug up, I've just seen two surveyors out at the moment with surveying things.

I have noticed (I think) that the bus has been taking a bit longer to get from the Town Hall stop to the High Street stop recently; more often getting caught up in traffic going through the lights there.

I'm all for increasing pedestrian priority though.

Let's extend the congestion charging zone out to the edge of zone 2 and we can have a more civilised town centre for Brixton.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed that.

O/T That town hall stop boils my piss TBH, buses have to come out of the traffic stream then struggle to reenter/block the left turn. Its about 50 yds from the main drag of bus stops.
