Let the controversy begin!

#1 is a cracker though and very Scottish in is melancholy beauty.

Only seven songs in length, Hats is a masterpiece of love, loss and redemption writ large over a lush, soulful and at times overwhelmingly beautiful soundscape, inseparable from the city of its birth, Glasgow. For more than 25 years it has offered endless inspiration and comfort. “When all the rainy pavements lead to you,” sings a heartbroken Paul Buchanan on From a Late Night Train. The rainy pavements of Glasgow will always lead to Hats.

I dunno who Blue Nile are supposed to be but I doubt they've made better albums than these two.

OK so I listened to a Blue Nile song and it was actually very good, but it's clearly not going to be effective on a sunny Saturday afternoon so I'm going to hold off on listening to the rest of the album until I'm going somewhere on a train in winter, preferably somewhere with mountains.

It's stuffed full of love and loss, rainy late night streets and last train journeys!

Interesting how much of this music is relatively obscure south of the border (to my mind at least) - but a load of albums that seem obvious (to the english) are missing entirely.

I guess scotland is a different country with a different musical culture. Who knew?

I was north of the border for most of these and I can't say I'm very familiar with most of them. I did a Scottish music thread once and I'm not sure these featured strongly.

I'm not much if a music aficionado tbf.
