Tony Slattery used to irritate the fuck out of me in his 80s heyday.. anyway - watched that documentary on him a few years back.. and yeah - clearly a troubled man.
So much for the fleeting highs of celebrity and fame.

But also. No amount of googling has helped me. I'm sure he dropped a vase or something, smashing it, on some antiques type programme while coked up? I'm sure I haven't made this up. Probably. I've always held him in high esteem for this. Anyone else remember that?
His appearances on Whose Line Is It Anyway? made him a major comedy and improv star in the 90s, but then his life fell apart. He talks about love, addiction, bipolar disorder and a long-buried secret
When the actor and comedian was interviewed by the Guardian a year ago, there was an outpouring of love. It led to his new documentary, exploring the link between mental health and childhood abuse

Wow. Those interviews are quite vulnerable and raw and warts and all. On the one hand, quite brave of him to be so open, on the other, just goes to show how unresolved childhood issues are never surmounted, they always haunt you.
He was on telly all the time in the 80s and early 90s, and then suddenly disappeared. It's really sad that he was dealing with mental health issues and addiction/alcoholism. He always came across as so confident and engaging and fun - just shows that you can never tell what a person is going through. I feel very sad about him.
