Tony Hart gone to the big Gallery in the sky

DaveCinzano

WATCH OUT, GEORGE, HE'S GOT A SCREWDRIVER!
The veteran children's television show presenter and artist Tony Hart died yesterday, aged 83. He had suffered from ill health, including two strokes in recent years, and died peacefully in the early hours of the morning, according to his agent.

Hart inspired generations of budding artists over his 50-year television career through programmes such as Vision On, Take Hart and Hartbeat, before retiring in 2001 due to ill health. His agent, Roc Renals, said his health had recently been in decline and he had been taken to hospital with a chest infection. He described Hart as a "kind man" who was single-minded in his dedication to his work.

That's six years old!

I was just about to say I thought he was already dead.

Still nothing has come out about how little kiddies knew what the gallery theme was when sending their pictures in advance of an episode being broadcast.

Is it to do with the zombie programme?

Off fb: "Something to do with a Zombie program on BBC3 last night. Zombie Tony Hart gets killed, twitter goes in to #RIPtonyhart overdrive"

Is there any explanation as to why people suddenly thought he'd died again?

e2a: by which I mean, where did it all start? I get that once people started seeing it reported it took off, but why did it get such coverage?

For the final few years of Tony Hart's life, a stroke prevented him being able to draw. :(
Shortly before his death, just a few months before iirc, I was at some awfully cheesy Sony launch bash for one of their playstation games called "LittleBigPlanet" (at the time I worked for one of the web agencies that'd done their online promotion stuff). The game was one of those where you sort of created the game yourself, vaguely similar principle to stuff like the Sims or Minecraft, I suppose. Anyhoo, the "highlight" of the night was where they'd got attendees at the bash to create some game levels & have them judged by a special guest. None other than the venerable Tony Hart (supposedly in the spirit of "the gallery" from Take Hart fame). I didn't bother participating myself, being the cynical curmudgeon that I am, I just watched the proceedings unfold whilst draining the free bar. I actually felt really awkward when he turned up - he was propped up by two assistants, could barely walk & quite frankly I'm not sure he even knew what was going on! I can see why some Sony executive muppet thought it was a good idea, but in reality it was rather tragic seeing this very frail old man - a TV icon from my youth - seemingly being exploited by evil corporate types. Maybe I'm wrong & he really enjoyed himself, but from where I was standing it didn't look like he even knew what day it was! :(

poor bloke eh.

One of my celebrity booker friends was urged against booking Jimmy Hill for something a few months ago because apparently his mind's pretty much shot to bits these days. His absence from the 50th anniversary special of Match Of The Day was noted too. All his reflections were filmed from a few years back.
