The Neil Young Archive

This has just gone live.

Neil Young Archives

It's basically everything he's ever recorded, uploaded for free with the blessing of the man himself.

Caveats:

1) It looks like you need to make some sort of account to get access

2) It has the sort of appallingly bad user interface that kinda confirms that Neil was involved in that aspect

Anyway, currently listening to Arc, which I haven't heard since someone nicked it* out of my Weld CD double-pack

* I've long suspected my then-partner of binning it for perhaps understandable reasons

Neil Young deserves better than the speaker on your fucking phone. Man's given his life's work away gratis and still you lot moan
If I hear him on my phone it gets bluetoothed to a decent speaker. If I hear him on my computer, it gets heard on the crappy internal speaker.

Anyway, I've got all the CDs, it'd only be curiosity.

What format is it downloadable in? I know he's got a bit of a thing about sound quality being shit these days.

I think you'll like it mate. It's got plenty to keep a Neil nerd happy. I was supposed to be going out with the Mrs 2 hours ago. She's still stood there foot tapping with her coat on. She's keeping good time though :D

I am. I can't get in at all. :D Stuck on the eggtimer permanently. I'll give it a go later on.
Works straight off here on firefox.

On the format front it's classic Neil.

You can listen to streaming of everything in 320 or you can flick the switch and listen to it with MORE BARN :D It's not going to work for everyone because of conversion capabilities for a lot of PC's. Worth reading the audio set up guide.

I've had a poke around. It's amazing. All the music, the artwork, handwritten stuff, etc.. And, through a DAC and out the stereo it sound great, too. Bit idiosyncratic layout, but that's Neil Young. Not many artists would go to so much as effort and expense to give away their entire life's work in the best quality possible!

Aw man, Powderfinger is such a great, harrowing, beautiful song.

I keep forgetting, and keep getting reminded, how great Neil Young can be.

Anyway, off to listen to Old Man just to cheer myself up

Legend has is he wrote it for Skynyrd, but they died before they could record it. Great song.

Cheers for posting that. Works great on my ipad through the bluetooth on my radio. I logged in using my gmail address & password & away it went.

Edit. The “Neil Young archive team” have sent me a welcome email stating this is a trial period until June 30 & after that I can sign up for a subscription at “modest cost”.

The home town gig on the front page is really good (although it doesn't start until 10 minutes into the Facebook Live video, and also it's a Facebook Live video). Just Neil, his guitar and harmonica.

redsquirrel it starts with Comes a Time, you'll like it I reckon

Yeah, I'll think I'll sign up tomorrow.

Gonna give this a go on the PC this week.

Neil Young is probably my favourite singer songwriter ever.

Oh, and my favourite guitarist of all time. :)
