The Messengers

Mornin! It's the weekend... yay!

I've heard on good authority from a mate in the States (lucky sod who struck it lucky by marrying a rich New Yorker... lovely couple though. Went to the wedding last year!) who saw it last month that The Messengers is a decent horror flick.

Apparently it's a cross between The Birds and The Ring, which sounds like an interesting combo! Not so much into the slasher horror films these days, so look out for my psychological thrillers... Hitchcock being the master!

Anyone else know much about this one or when it's out?

There is evidence to suggest that children are highly susceptible to paranormal phenomena. They see what adults cannot. They believe what adults deny. And they are trying to warn us.

I saw a preview of The Messengers the other night, expecting another cheesy horror movie, but have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. I thought I´d make a comment or two on the movie, since I opened a thread on it a while ago (even if no-one had any details on it!).

Not particularly original, but still a well shot film that combines aspects of various classics (including Hitchcock´s The Birds) to good effect. The storyline is solid, performances decent and it certainly makes a change from the awful slasher (regarded as so-called horror) movies that we've been served up of late.

It´s finally being released here in the UK on April 6th. Highly recommended for those of you who haven´t seen it (yet).

8/10

Although Kristen Stewart was good in the role, I just read that Scout Taylor-Compton had auditioned for it (but mistakenly - I think - is in the remake of Halloween).

I remember her from a few episodes of Charmed a couple of years back and think she might have made a better Jess in The Messengers.

Looking on IMDB, there were 2 Bens! Bit odd... how old is this kid then?

And for a friend of mine who I know checks out this forum... you know who you are(!)... the movie's out in Brazil on 20th April, so only 2 weeks after being released here (in the UK)... tchau linda ;)

saw this last night did not think very much of it at all probably about 4/10.... just another in a long line of "horror" films that show lots of jumpy stuff at the beginning and don't really have any real plot and then the whole story gets revealed at the end...thought it was pretty boring really.
