The London Nobody Knows (1969)
A glimpse at the off-the-beaten-track of England's capital city in the late 1960s, The London Nobody Knows (1967), stands in stark contrast to the international glamorous image of London as a center of innovation and art in the Swinging Sixties. Narrator James Mason—dapper and serious, wielding an umbrella—wanders through the crumbling relics of abandoned, once-grand theaters, speaks to the poor and indigent at a Salvation Army hostel, and takes us into the Holborn public lavatory that once boasted live goldfish in tanks to look at while urinating. "These fish don't live here now, of course," Mason comments off-handedly, gesturing with his brolly. "We just popped them in by way of illustration."

Bought this about 10 years ago after hearing a review of it on the Robert Elms show. Fucking brilliant film. Think im gonna dig it out now and watch it again. Cheers Ed.

Same here, I think also off Robert Elms's recommendation. It's a brilliant film.

I have this dvd dvd from back when I was a dvd reviewer. A surprisingly entertaining disc to come through my letterbox. I think it came with a much more boring film about a bicycle tour of London, or something about a bike anyway.
I just love masons narration.

I also love a film called The Optimists of Nine Elms from around that time.

"A retired entertainer makes his living as a street musician on the streets of London. Two young children befriend the old musician, brightening his otherwise colorless life."

And the Robinson films....Robinson in Space? I forget now.

Supposedly the new Yardie film does a great job of recreating 80s London.... Curious too see it for that.

just a bump - this comes round on talking pictures tv now and then - it's currently on their 'encore' (online or red button if you've got the right sort of telly) but only for the rest of today

just noticed that talking pictures TV (channel 82 here but may vary) have it again this evening (in a few minutes - 7.05 pm) - but will probably be on encore / red button for a week or so
