I couldn't justify a thread entirely for a new NAS, so I figured we could use this just to show off the miscellany that we've bought recently and want to show off.
Of late, a lot of torrents have been in the newfangled H.265 encoding that my telly doesn't support. (Anime is really bad for this, for some reason) Old NAS is a single cored ARM thingie that couldn't transcode an H.265 video if it had most of the day to do so. Let alone do it real time. So I've upgraded to QNAP's new TS-251D. Gemini Lake Celeron, with hardware decode for H.265/4k/10bit. Oddly enough, the desktop version of the CPU in the Chromebook I recently bought. I'm kinda glad the 4-bay version is delayed due to the 'Rona, otherwise I might have been tempted. I can now connect the NAS directly to the telly via HDMI and not bother with the shitty Samsung DLNA interface. And I can stop caring about what encoding the videos I download are in.
And someone's already claimed the old TS-219P II for their Time Machine target, so the 8.5 year old NAS gets to continue its long life. It's even got support 'til the end of the year, which is a good reason to be buying QNAP (or Synology, they're as good).
