Because you just said it

Perhaps I was asleep or pissed at the time, but I don't recall saying anything of that nature. It wasn't drugs because I don't use them, so perhaps you could remind me where I said, "a group who have been at daggers drawn with isis are isis", because I can't find it in this thread.
I did say some US armed and trained supposed moderates turned out to be ISIS, or defected to them, but that isn't the same thing unless you want it to be in order to start an argument. :)

Interesting interview with a former IS emir about the Caliphate's relationship with elements in the Turkish state & ATP. Confirms much of what PYD sources were saying round Kobani about the cooperative relationship that allowed new fighters in & wounded fighters out, & places this cooperation within the wider ambition of Erdogan's Ottoman dreams. Note that it's a proper secret policeman's ball source.

“This is the Islamists’ ideology of Erdogan,” Abu Mansour explains, adding, “They wanted all of the north of Syria. That is what the Turkish side said [they wanted], to control the north of Syria, because they have their real ambitions. Actually, we talked about what Erdogan said in public [versus what he really desired.] This part of Syria is part of the Ottoman states. Before the agreement following the Second World War, Aleppo and Mosul were part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire. The agreement Sykes Picot [in which they lost these regions] was signed for one hundred years. In our meetings, we talked about re-establishing the Ottoman Empire. This was the vision of Turkey.”

The Islamic State Archives

Over the past few years, I collected thousands of internal Islamic State documents from the ground in Syria in particular. These documents capture what was likely a unique historical moment, when the Islamic State enjoyed the height of its success as a state project in the form of territorial control and governance in Iraq and Syria. For the purposes of the historical record, it is my aim to present the documents I collected to researchers and the wider public, complete with translations and analysis. I have always believed in transparently presenting the original source material (rather than presenting only select excerpts as often happens) so that readers can also form their own judgements and analyses....

perhaps you can expand on this because i for one am not aware of any other contemporary armed forces which execute the vast majority of the people they capture: although with the possible exception of boko haram.

(Apologies for using your quote Pickman's model I came across it in a search while looking for a relevant thread to put this - though this may turn out to be one of those times where a contemporary armed force has indeed executed, or at least poisoned, a majority of those captured,)

Bit gruesome. 9 day battle in Chad between national armed forces and Boko Haram. Alleged over 1,000 BH killed, Chad lost over 50 soldiers. 58 BH captured, taken to prison for trial, allegedly not fed or watered for 2-3 days. 44 die in a cell from 'poisoning'.

seems from the article they were handed over to the court system and so no longer in military custody

very peculiar tho

Isis are making major gains in Africa, holding thousands of kilometres or territory and have displaced Boko Haram in Nigeria inheriting weapons and members.
From The Guardian.
Detailed accounts of recent internal debates in Nigeria, where Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap) recently routed Boko Haram, suggest a new emphasis by Isis in Africa on providing security and basic services to local communities. Though strategies differ according to local conditions, the new bid by the group to create zones of “jihadi governance” could pose a major challenge to weak, corrupt and inefficient national authorities, analysts fear.

“For an organisation like Isis, sub-Saharan Africa is where you can have a lot of impact with minimal [investment of] resources. This is one of the few places in the world where Isis actually controls territory of many thousands of square kilometres. It’s a frontier for them,” said Vincent Foucher, an expert on Islamist extremism in Nigeria with the International Crisis Group.

It would be interesting to say the least if China got involved. Could they do any worse than we or America did? Also how would IS react I wonder 😱

I wouldn't be remotely surprised if one of the deep - one remaining (?) - hopes of the US defence/FP establishment is that China gets drawn into Afghanistan.

I'm seeing stuff that suggests Russia was surprised/horrified by Bidens Afghan timetable that they've gone from laughing their tits off to shitting themselves in a month....

China doesn't want to invade Aghanistan. They want to exploit it economically, so they'll maintain a relationship with the Kabul regime and the Taliban and aim for stability. Which is also what Russia and Iran want. Neither Kabul nor the Taliban can displace each other. There'll be some fighting but there'll be a stalemate with the country divided in two. The regional powers will want to avoid large scale fighting and terrorism so that Afghanistan's neighbours can have stable borders and trade routes can stay open, perhaps with some mining operations using Chinese investment. They'll all try to be friends with both sides, and encourage both sides to prevent IS from flourishing anywhere. They'll provide arms and money to help.

This is completely crazy and apparently entirely predictable:

Syria: Kurdish-led forces storm Hasakah prison as fight with Islamic State continues

Kurdish-led forces stormed a prison in the northern Syrian city of Hasakah on Tuesday, as they attempted to wrestle back control of the facility from the Islamic State (IS) group.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said in a statement that they had retaken a building block of eight dormitories inside Ghwayran prison - also known as al-Sinaa prison - and recaptured some 550 prisoners, five days after hundreds of IS fighters attacked the facility as part of a brazen attempt to free their captured comrades....
