I think the green berets differs from the examples above because it wasn't just some morale booster like the WW2 ones ..we're there was already widespread support for the war efforts underway . Or like who dares wins ..which although it had a definite political slant was more box office cashing in on the televisuals of the Iranian embassy siege .
" the green berets " had the explicit purpose of drumming up support for a war that there was widespread disquiet and unpopularity about in the US . And unlike WW2 the US hadn't been attacked by anyone . An issue it hamfistedly addressed in its joke of a storyline with the sceptical reporter and his road to Damascus conversion come the end . There's many a dire war film but fuck that was dire . Also all the way through the storyline they had to explain ..over and over again..why they were at war, while complaining about the people at home who didn't support them . It was the rankest of propaganda .
I think that one and Heartbreak Ridge ..the US invasion of Grenada...akin to a super power waging war on the Isle of Man....rank as my 2 most blleeuugh ones of all time in the propaganda stakes . Bad as in they're meant to be taken seriously .
Also the jungles in the A team looked more authentic than the jungle in the green berets . Looked more like someone's back garden
