The fall of Manchester City -what's gone wrong?

Everton are going to beat them at this rate. And I mean the men, the women already did it earlier today. Dycheball knows no gender.
Hey be careful what you wish for. If, by the end of the January we still haven't won a game our guys from the UAE have the money to get Dyche in for the relegation fight.

On an even greater tangent, City now have two ex-players to be elected president of their country (Liberia and Georgia).
Weird world.
I assumed the other one was Kinkladze, what's a Kavelashvili?!

I have a lot of time for City, being a lower league fan these days I can't get my head around fans outside of the establishment (top 4) not liking them.

Have massive investment from a murderous homophonic govt in the name of sports washing? And you think all football fans should support that?

Well I disagree.
Ideally we would still be in a period where a local fan done good would be able to finance their childhood club, but sadly some clubs cough have over commercialised the beautiful game and these oversee owners have infiltrated the sport.

Having seen City fans stick through their club during thin and thin whilst their neighbours cleared up i can't begrudge their recent success. Everton fall into this category to a lesser extent.

As a United fan, I can't complain when other teams have success. One team dominating for years is shit. I'd agree with you about City fans who stuck with the club as well. Might add that United's ownership and contribution to football becoming commodified shite is dreadful. So much so that I haven't been to OT since the Glazers took over. Might further add that Radcliffe is a tax exile scumbag.

But none of that deflects one iota from what City's ownership is about.

United fan here (though my heart's not really been in it for a long time now :( ).

There's lots of factors but with two exceptions City should be able to ride them out. But...

a) Pep has normally walked before this point in a team's cycle. He's in unfamiliar territory and we'll see if he can deal with it.

b) The looming threat of punishment (especially ones that might tarnish players' places in the record books) must surely be a distraction. Even a small % drop off in focus might make a huge difference.

Anyway here's hoping their honours are stripped and Ole bags a title after the fact!

I watched the Manchester derby and it was a very poor game . Despite that I expected City to see it out their one nil lead but they just self-imploded. Getting thrashed by Spurs and losing at home to United shows what a rut they are in. I think the biggest issue now is not injuries , it was never the hearing anyway , it's confidence . Players are scared to put a foot wrong simply because they have put plenty of feet wrong with dire consequences, they are too predictable, conservative and lack incisiveness. Its a hard cycle to get out of perhaps new signings might help ?

Well, considering how many football fans thought Mazraoui had a point and it was unfair to make him wear the rainbow jacket and he was making a brave statement about trans women in sports, I don't think they're that arsed about homophobia.

City having their trophies stripped off them will create a massive can of worms. Like, does it include the women as well? Everton are my women's team, do we get a trophy because City women beat us that one time? And if Wednesday came second in the PL (hahahahahahaha), I wouldn't want us to win the title purely because the team above us had it taken off them.

ETA: please don't start on me and tell me I'm jealous of United or whatever. They're my local team and if I wanted to switch to them I would have ages ago.

That all seems tangential to my point.

I think the idea all fans should support City because UAE arrived and spent millions so they are now 'getting one over the top clubs' is a bit ridiculous. All fans should oppose such ownership - the same way they should oppose the Glazers, Newcastle owners etc.

And all the money came from the PL. We (United) just happened to time our run right and end 26 years without winning a title in 1993. And the rest is history.

That said, United has been the biggest club in England since Munich/Busby Babes, so we are just the lightning rod for a lot of the criticism (sometimes fairly).

At least he's ok...

If they ever amped the punishment for simulation up to an optional red card, Walker's shithousery would be up there. Having said that, the whole putting foreheads together and behaving like baby rams is itself pretty childish. One of the Things Wrong With Modern Football, though not as bad as some of the other things being discussed on this very page.

I'm (genuinely) unsure who your top 4 would be nowadays. And whilst I get the idea that the Prem League and/or UEFA concentrates money and power, I'm not sure they focus on such a tightly defined group.

Nearly a quarter of a century in the most lucrative league in the world stretches my notion of 'thick and thin.'

Fuck the Premier League and all the billionaires/dodgy corporates and countries involved with it.

Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Arsenal.

Man Utd & Tottenham want to be in it, but they're not.

That's it.

That's revenue from 22/23. There are 6 clubs that are way ahead of all the others. Luckily for the others Man Utd are a complete train wreck and Spurs are Spurs. Occasionally one of the others will have a great season and come 6th or something.

Oh and they're way ahead cos of the way competitions are organised. I mean Champs League but also see the League Cup draw this year.
