The Elizabeth Line (aka Crossrail) is go!

I don't get what's so great about it. Seems to be the central line.

I think it is additional capacity on existing routes to some extent. But a journey from Heathrow to the East End would currently need 3 changes and be a slow crawl on the picadilly, a short bit of central and then the DLR. Crossrail will be direct.

Well, hardly the central line, its a proper rail link that goes a lot faster. Takes ages from east to west, that'll do it in about 10 minutes. The central line is a bit crowded so this will also take some of the strain.

Seems everyone wanted it, so its about time really.

Its all a bit biased around Canary Wharf. Its has had one mother of transport investment. Its probably had more investment in transport than any other part of Britain x 1000.

The DLR, the Lime House Link, the Jubilee extension and now Cross rail. Is it really that important? I suppose that all those jobs now wouldn't be there if they hadn't but fucking hell do they really rake in the cash to deserve all that?

I don't think there is much doubt that Canary Wharf 'rakes in the cash', it's just a shame more of the jobs don't go to local people.

Yep I sure does rake it in. Add up the operations of Citi, HSBC, Barclays, all the businesses 1 Canada Square, Barclays Global Investors on North Colonnade.

Yep, you’d almost think there were national and Mayoral elections coming.

Fwiw,, Crossrail sounds really quite significant to me. Getting people efficiently into and across town East <> West is going to take a considerable burden off the tube - especially in the central area where capacity is exhausted at times, the tube interchanges, and even the M25.

The scale of it is also impressive – the length and frequency of the trains, plus the size of the new underground connections.

In terms of long term public transport strategy, really think this is a big deal.

...and Bond Street will stretch almost all the way to Oxford Circus.

Pleased this has finally got the go-ahead :)

I was just looking at one station - TCR - and the scale of that alone is just massive. Two enormous booking halls (either side of Soho Square), 2 separate deep tunnels almost twice the size of tube tunnels, the scale of the ventilation and emergency exits . . . Monster project.

How the hell are they going to build the new stations in Central London? Are they definitely underground? Or is that massive site behind Centre Point going to be the new station....the place that used to be flats opposite the church?

Astoria will be knocked down. (At last...!)

Is losing a gig venue really that great.....why not the site where the flats used to be and build the flats above it?

Where are the "artists impressions" listed...?

When was the last time you were at the Astoria...? The toilets are rank... :D

We get evicted from our offices in 18 months time now... hope we stay in Farringdon..best bit of central London to work in, imho.

Yeah, it's underground from paddington to canary wharf. Big fucking tunnels too - about 6m diameter.

Great news. I bit sceptic about the entry-into-service date of 2015 though. 7 and a bit years should be plenty but from past experiences the project could be severely delayed (and overbudget).

I can't remember.
