Argh... I’ve contributed to making a few that were lost, but I don’t have any photos of them.

Theres a wonderful woman called Alice Kilroy who has made hundreds of banners for a whole range of campaigns and unions etc. All hand made in her living room
Theres a gallery of her work on her website

Im proud to call her a friend....she has even made a banner for my little crappy club night

Thats my banner there, and Alice is on the right of the picture. Some of her work was recently exhibited near Preston.

I bring it up as sadly she has just received a terrible diagnosis and its not looking good.
She ones of those people who does so much work behind the scenes - not just banners, but endless stalls, admin roles etc etc. A wonderful person utterly committed ....a real hero. Her situation is heartbreaking tbh. Spare her a thought....

Alice Kilroy has died this afternoon....no hyperbole: one of the warmest, hardworking, no bullshit, down to earth, get it done, committed people ive ever met in my life. We've lost a life long fighter.
Tried to visit her in hospital but there have been so many people trying to see her that i failed to get a slot - which says it all. Even J Corbyn came to visit - she campaigned hard for him in recent years.
Nothing but admiration for her

Our branch one, left on the number 42 or something a decade or so ago, I believe :D

We've mumbled about getting a new one commissioned at various points over the years, hope to manage it one day :hmm:

Didn't think for a minute I'd find this on the internet, but here it is - I had a small part in making the Newham 8 banner on the left of this pic. Christ, that was a long time ago.

maybe worth a mention here for the bishopsgate institute in london - their archives include a fair bit of union / protest / political - party and otherwise - stuff, including banners and protest signs.

they do often go on social media when there's a big demonstration asking if anyone would like to donate protest banners / signs after the event

We still have the banners, though the mines were demolished and their shafts capped long ago.
Sadly most of the miners are gone too, along with the communities that defined them.
These two banners are in pride of place in the parish church in the memorial to those who died at work.
