Team GB for BBC Sprts Personality of the year?

I'm a woman and I would vote for Bradley Wiggins rather than Jessica Ennis, great though I think she is.

All our Olympic athletes have done brilliantly and would deserve to win it normally, but his accomplishment in winning the Tour De France puts him head and shoulders above the rest.

If she isn't the record holder then she isn't even the best ever heptathlete, never mind The Greatest Athlete the World Has Ever Seen OMG!!.

Edit: And I'm not trying to undermine Ennis' achievements. I am, however, trying to undermine your rather bizarre assertion.

but I'd expect them to under the sway of the same influences.
but, the amount of charm/attractiveness a singer has is part of evaluating them as a performer. Plenty of singers who don't have the most remarkable vocals in the world making it off the back of something else. Whereas you can be utterly charmless and ugly as sin and still be respected as a sportsperson.

Greatest athlete in the history OF sport, not the sport.

Jess had to be the best out of seven different events, Wiggins just rode around on a bike.
You don't really understand what the Heptathlon is, do you?

(btw Jackie Joyner-Kersee would officially be the greatest athlete in the history of sport, then?)

I know that Jess deserves to be SPOTY more than anyone else

Not really - she is an admittedly superb athlete but she won an event that Denise Lewis won twelve years ago. Wiggins won something that noone from this country has ever won before, an event which is pretty much widely recognized as one of the most challenging events in world sport, and then won a gold medal two weeks after that as well.

It would be good to have someone with a personality win it

Not this chestnut again:

personality noun 1 a person's nature or disposition; the qualities that give one's character individuality. 2 strength or distinctiveness of character • lots of personality. 3 a well-known person; a celebrity.

I was actually just thinking that maybe they should change it to "Sportsperson of the Year", just to nix that debate once and for all.

Probably won't though.

You're off on one tonight, aren't you

I'm hardly Wiggins' greatest fan, but he has definitely had the best year of any British athlete. He won the Tour de France, something no British athlete has ever managed before. He won an Olympic gold. He won almost every stage race he entered.

Now, the sheer excitement of the Olympics might mean that some other medalist actually wins it, but he's the only won who won a gold without it even being close to the biggest thing he achieved all year.

It's going to be close - before the Olympics - Wiggins had it in the bag , then he won the time trial was was a sure thing - before all those other pesky personalities started winning gold medals - So Hoy would be up for it again - greatest Olympian and all that - Ainslie for winning 4th gold on the bounce - Ennis for the Heptathlon, even Murray for the tennis - he might have more of a chance if he wins the US open, then yet another personality goes and wins the USPGA
