Superman Returns

Kid_Eternity

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
It just (re)occurred to me that Superman Returns is coming out next year and I know little about it! Anyone heard anything decent about it? Anyone looking forward to it being released? The pix seem to suggest a grittier look to the film...

it has to be as good as batmin begins or it will be wortt nothing in my books.... *wanders off mumbling about how fucking cool bb was*

Oooh, they've kept the original score by the look of it! You can see a few clips from the upcoming teaser trailer here. Looks cool, a bit Xmen like (which is no bad thing) and quite sombre.

Well, I really liked Singer's work on the first two X Men films (And he's not making 3, which could well suck).

But there's something about the look of this new Superman guy that just isn't right...

He's too short.

Reeve just was Superman.

In the same way, Bale (IMO) in Batman Begins was Batman.

Begins was necessary as nobody had previously delivered a definitive Batman film. Whereas there have already been two definitive Superman films; i.e .the first two Reeve films...

Keaton, imo, did a credible job potraying Batman/Wayne. Bale is certainly worthy of the role, but not too sure about how BB and B stand, as the parents death doesn't quite match between the two films... Which one was faithful to the comic?

Begins was more faithful to the comic. As batman I'd say Bale and keaton were about equal, except that BB portrayed Batman as not killing, which was more faithful to the comic, compared to the original where he did.

And Bale's portrayal of Wayne was vastly better than Keaton's...

Also, the idea of the Joker having killed his parents was a total fabrication. The depiction from Begins, that it was a nobody, was truer to the comics.

Well...I thought BB was dodgy looking and going to be crap so I remain open minded about this (agree though that Reeve had it down). It's directed by Brian Singer who has done a good job on the Xmen films (especially number two if you ask me) so here's hoping it'll do for the franchise what Batman Begins did for Batman. :)

Batman's parents were killed by Joe Chill, a small-time crook. In the new film he works for the mob boss Falcone, but in the comics he's a loner. In one story Chill discovers that he 'created' Batman and boasts about it to some other crims who, quite understandably, kill him for it.

Doesnt Ras-A-Ghul say he had somthing to do with the nobody?

The new guy playing Superman (Brandon Routh) looks so similar to Christopher Reeve it's scary.

2 things I liked about the teaser.

1 it's got Marlon Brando in it!

2 it's got parts of the original John Williams score in it.

Is it just a remake of the 1st Superman film then?

Can they bring back General Zod for the sequel.

No idea, I reckon it's going to be a mix of "re-imagining" and new plot variations on the comics. I just showed it to a couple of people in my office, one thought it looked very good and the other has just watched it three times! :D

I reckon they should start showing it in cinemas over here, it'd get everyone right into it! :)

No, my understanding is that it takes place after Superman 2. The idea being to forget the crap of 3 and 4, but keep the 1st 2...

Ah right, that would be a good idea...but I don't get, assuming that's the case, why they're showing him younger?

Wicked.

Have any of you seen the restored international cut of Superman II?

http://supermancinema.co.uk/superman2/real_s2/ric/default.asp

I've been trying to find it on P2P but it seems a bit tricky, some guy spent years rebuilding the film with as much Richard Donner footage as he could find.

Bring back General Zod too, I don't understand how he was put into handcuffs and put in prison at the end of Superman II, do they have a special kryptonite cell? :D

Well he's, like , Superman, innit. If he can push time backwards I'm sure it's not too tough to look a bit younger... :D

ROFL! That was one of the funniest things I've seen said on here in weeks! :D
