Sunderland AFC 2015/16

I just watched the match highlights. I couldn't believe how fairweather the Sunderland fans were, booing their own team when they were two down and then streaming out of the stadium en mass when they went 3 down after 57 mins.

With fans like that maybe they don't deserve to stay up?

You are joking i presume. Fairweather? 40,000 week? Have watched any other sunderland games this past few season?

I used to support Sunderland until PDC then I haven't supported them since. I have been a few times with Hull and also as a neutral on a few occasions as i get comp tickets often. I'd say on reflection SAFC fans aren't fair-weather - they do regularly get 40g of them for what I can honestly say is some of the worst football I have ever seen. What a lot of them *are* is shit fans. I started going in the 70s. I've never booed them in my life, I've never walked out and compared to other fans I've been sat/stood with over the last few seasons, SAFC fans are fucking bitter, miserable cunts! Not all, obv but an awful lot are.

Not been round long have you? This site was originally set up relating to football & you might guess it was editor who set it up.
Setting up a sub forum makes someone an expert?
'fairweather' has not been in regular parlance in relation to football since pre-sky 1992 days. And i would seriously question someone describing 40k plus crowds after years of appalling football and relegation battles as 'fairweather'. Very dubious basic understanding of football support.

Only people who nothing about football use the term 'fairweather'.
The Guardian used the phrase last year, right here. But instead of griping about the phrase used, why don't you comment on the Sunderland fans who were booing their team and streaming out of the ground in mass numbers before the game was even two-thirds over?

Are you going to defend them? Is that what you call a true fan?

Argument lost. The phrase is used in relation to american soccer audiences.

Obviously you watched the rerun and saw how appalling sunderland were? Theres a lot of disquiet among sunderland fans who've put up with years of this. Youre probably one of the few people who would criticise them which is why i question your basic knowledge of the game.

I.presume you support a top 4 team.

You're actually trying to defend what happened at Sunderland on Saturday? Walking out half way through a game and booing your own players? You think that's the kind of support a team needs? Or are you the kind of fan that can't accept any criticism even when it's clearly deserved?

FYI, I support Dulwich Hamlet. I saw them play 44 times last season (how many times did you see Sunderland?). They're in the seventh tier of the pyramid which makes your argument look even sillier now. :D

Fair play.
Am not defending anything. I'm suggesting criticism of sunderland fans needs to be put in context.

And ps not that it matters but have had a season ticket for 26 years.

Watching Sunderland implode is always fun - serves them right for employing a fascist.

Hope they go down this season

I don't think there's ever a legitimate 'context' for booing your own players or walking out of a game that's barely half way over - and when it's only the second game of the season, it's truly unacceptable.

But that's the premiership for you.

Theres worse examples. See newcastle boycotts last season. Marches and demos. Abuse of pardew etc.

I'm sure there are, but does that make what your fans did OK?
Stuffed by norwich at home. I was tempted. Personally i wouldnt leave early but what other people do who've paid their money is up to them.

However on another tack fair play for following non league. There may come a time when i choose a similar route.

Typical Sunderland fan :)

The Ashley out campaign has had a direct influence on the club signing new players this season, the sack Pardew campaign helped in getting rid of a manager who's own brand of tactic free negative football we had to endure for 5 years!

When it comes to abusing managers Sunderland are in a league of their own. Look at what Steve Bruce had to put up with or Poyet getting stormed by angry fans when he was in the dugout or Peter Monkey Heed getting spat on and beer chucked over him... and that's your own managers, I won't repeat the songs your lot were signing about Bobby Robson just before he died.

I don't think I've ever left a game early because my team wasn't achieving the desired result. I remember staying until the bitter end when we were being stuffed 2-7 at home, singing "six more, we only need six more.." until the final whistle :D

You having a laugh? Bruce got nowt except his last game in charge. His own pr machine has made up the whole 'poor me i was a geordie' line.

It was nufc fans who spat on bobby robson and abused him when he was in charge. Of course youve rewritten history now and put up a statue of him now. Full article from the time on the bbc.

What about carver last season. Was so baited he resorted to offering fans out.

What else...."boycoutts", bed sheet banners, funeral marches through the city, punching police horses, smashing up your own city after a defeat, abuse of pardew who is clearly a competent manager, not to mention being 2nd only to liverpool fans as delusional 'deserving' of success and have the right to 'expect' trophies despite not having won anything in over 50 years.

Dont believe for one second mike is investing because of your stupid little campaigns. He's investing enough in order to ensure he reaps the rewards from 2016-19's tv deals. Probably worth upwards of another £50m. Thats the figure he's investing. Mike Ashley has massive shoulders and bollocks. He aint taking no notice of you lot. He's protecting his ££££££

Then a link to the article would be nice. BR should of been moved upstairs when he lost control of the dressing room, that Fat Freddy waited untill a few games into the following season before sacking him (a disgraceful move by FS), and then bringing in the disciplinarian Souness was the problem, FS being a constant pain in the arse for NUFC.

Carver is a crackerjack.

Well we could always expect the competency of Pardew to give you lot enough points to stay up the last few seasons.

Geordies have short memories when it comes to their behaviour.

is that it? your man Mick Dennis claims that Newcastle fans booed Bobby Robson for dropping Shearer, well he's got that wrong for a start, it was Gullit who was booed for dropping Shearer, and it was in the derby against you lot.

He also claims Newcastle fans spat on Robson when he dropped Keegan as England manager :) what a load of old balls man, were the culprits wearing curly wigs and talking like ant & dec?

and that's it, that's all there is, that's the appalling behaviour of Newcastle supporters...

That he was spat on in 1982 by newcastle supporters is beyond doubt. And he was forced out to the sound of booing and jeers as manager. Mind the final insult is the hilarious statue outside sjp.

Beyond doubt? :) It says so in the paper, it must be true!

And you want to talk about hilarious statues?
