Starlink Launch – Watch Live Then See It Over The UK

Ponyutd

Greebo likes this....r.i.p.
The launch is scheduled for 19:19 BST (UK Time). This may change so stay up to date on launch timings with @VirtualAstro on twitter and Facebook.

The final stage of the rocket and its cargo of starlink satellites will pass over the UK approximately 20 minutes later. Brightness and visibility are unknown, but it should be visible to the keen eyed. Follow @VirtualAstro on twitter and Facebook for more info. Approximate pass details are listed below.

Don’t miss it! It’s not often that we see a spaceship fly over with the naked eye.

Several times a day for two weeks every other two weeks (approx.) when the ISS passes over plus numerous others in between.

The Starlink stack (separating) won't be visible until the second orbital pass (deploy isn't due until 1 hour after launch). Unfortunately the launch forecast for the Cape isn't looking great right now (40% chance of launch constraint violations) and gets even worse (60%) 24 hours later. Atlantic first stage recovery zone a little choppy too. The target plane also precesses west (ie launch time is earlier each day) so the viewing options for the UK get worse as the passes are lost in daylight with each passing day.

Is it gong L to R or vice versa?
Always L->R ie west to east to take advantage of the Earth's rotation (also launch site azimuthal safety constraints).

PS the only folks (regularly) launching to the west equatorially (ie not NW or SW into polar orbits) are the Israelis who are constrained to do so by geopolitical and safety considerations (they only have one choice of a direction for a relatively sparse downrange field).

Nobody knows these things !!! How do you know these things ? 😁

Scrub. Revised launch time tomorrow is 1857BST which means no practical ascent pass viewing for the UK. However launch forecast currently has 70% chance of weather constraint violations.

Broadband incoming then :hmm:

Consumers interested in signing up can pre-order on Starlink's website. Orders are delivered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and limited to a select number of users per coverage area. The hardware required to use Starlink will cost $499, while internet service costs $99 a month.
