Stan Lee RIP

Well, the day was bound to come eventually for Mr Lieber.

He was a ruthless bastard who fucked with a lot of other people's intellectual property, but he also did a lot of creativity of his own and really did change the cultural landscape forever.

Excelsior!

RIP Stan :(

Good grief, I'm wandering down some very old and dusty memory lanes.

Anyone else here a past member of FOOM?

Seeing these threads and pretty much every single person I know on Facebook being sad is kinda weird as I’ve never read a single comic book in my life so I’ve only the barest idea of who he was.

Oh, that's sad. Was a long time coming but still. I wonder if future "serious art critics" will acknowledge the impact he and a few of his peers in the comic industry had on late 20th/early 21st century popular culture.

Good obituary on the Comics Journal website :
Stan Lee: 1922-2018 - TCJ

A piece at The Daily Beast goes into a little more depth about the issues which made Lee a somewhat polarising figure:
Marvel Icon Stan Lee Leaves a Legacy as Complex as His Superheroes - The Daily Beast

Following the death of his wife last year there were a series of increasingly disturbing reports suggesting Lee was being preyed on by those around him. (Hard to decide what was more revolting - that his blood was allegedly stolen and used to 'sign' collectables, or that cunts would actually buy them).

An 'interview' a month ago did little to dispel the impression that he was vulnerable and at the mercy of other peoples agendas.
