Stampede at Love Parade - 21 people reported killed (updated)

i put it in general cos it was big story - i don't think current affairs threads should go in politics unless they're really really geeky

general I can understand, although I can also understand maybe moving it out of general to somewhere more appropriate so it didn't get lost among the kittens... I just don't get what it's got to do with politics (other than the fact that this will lead to a further clampdown on outdoor free events).

the mods have been dead fussy recently and moving threads against people's wishes (well, mine anyway :D) i think threads should stay where the OP puts them unless it's an obvious mistake.
i thought general was the best place cos it could easily go in several other forums - in which case i'd prefer it to default to general.

an early BBC Radio 5 report had the female presenter saying that police reports indicated that revellers climbing over fences were to blame.....

Yep, it's always the people's fault, never anyone else's. Just blame the people, then we're off scott free.

All we need now is for the Sun to print a story about how ravers stole money and watches from the dead.

I was mocked the other day by the editor for referring to a thread I'd started as 'my thread'.

Pretty much says it all.

This thread is about the 21 people who died at the Love Parade and it's really inappropriate for you to hijack it with another of your petty, childish whines about the the minutiae of the boards not being run exactly to your personal preferences.

Please start a thread in the appropriate forum.

I was answering a post in this thread, therefore I was posting in the correct place. Thanks for your input though.

thanks to the editor for responding to a PM request from me and moving this thread to the festivals forum where I hope it can be kept updated with links to any further english language articles / information as it's unlikely to be getting much more uk press coverage, and my German's basic at best.

It is in the right forum now. I did a search last week and couldn't find a thread by looking in music/festivals.

Where do you think visitors would first look if they were trying to find the thread now?

In summary, it was an unsuitable site (The Cologne police had already told Duisburg police this), there was a communication breakdown between organisers, police and fireman on the day and too many people turned up.
