As they say: “Youth is not wasted on the young”
Do you enjoy working with children and watching them develop awareness of themselves and the world around them? Do you have some spare time for late afternoon or early evening during school time?
We are setting up Woodcraft Folk groups in the South Norwood area (North part of Croydon, Greater London), and need leaders and helpers to get ourselves going, and to keep the groups going. There is loads of information about the Woodcraft Folk on their website - www.woodcraft.org.uk - but here is what it says on their home page, which sums it up:
"A movement for children and young people, open to everyone from birth to adult. We offer a place where children will grow in confidence, learn about the world and start to understand how to value our planet and each other."
We have lots of interest from people who would like their children to take part, but we need a couple more people to commit to being trained up to run the weekly sessions. Initially, we are looking at an "Elfin" group (aged from 6 to 9) with some "Woodchips" (younger children) as well, plus a "Pioneer" group (10 to 12 year olds) if we can get enough leaders.
There will be weekly meetings of young people, plus some outings at weekends and in school holidays, and occasional camping trips. The meetings will be in the South Norwood area - venues not quite finalised yet. The outings and trips could be anywhere in the UK or further afield, although most of them will be in South London, I suspect
Some of those leaders will have a co-ordinating role for each of the groups – in particular Elfins (6 - 9 year olds), Pioneers (10 – 12 year olds) and Woodchips (under 6) – ensuring that the group meetings are happening, and that the young people are developing and learning in the way we expect, and that their voices are being heard.
All leaders will attend weekly group meetings and work with the children and young people, and devise activities for the meetings as well as organising outings, trips and walks.
All leaders will also be expected to work as part of a team, and to take on a specialist role within the South Norwood Woodcraft Folk, but we also need helpers who will simply help out on the day/evening
Anyone who is interested, please PM me, email snwoodcraftfolk@gmail.com. Or phone 07711 686716
