Sooo... I found a baby fox

wiskey

Albatross Admirer
At least I think it's a fox :hmm:

I was out having a smoke after work and I could hear squeaking I thought it was something shut in the shed but when I went down the garden with the key I found this little creature by the path.

It was very cold and shouty but now its warm and really shouty ...

What should I do? I've tried listening to see if I can hear the mum but I can't, I've tried giving it some lactose free milk but I wasn't very successful ...

I would put it back but it will get very cold and the cat has clocked it so it wouldn't last long.

It's currently shouting to itself in a box.

I've looked at local places, none are open now, there's a wildlife sanctuary I could take it to tomorrow.

Or I could put it back outside with or without the box and see what happens overnight.

If you can't get through to somewhere like the RSPCA, if you're on Facebook search for the page of your local animal sanctuary, or search for the name of your town along with 'dog rescue' or 'pet rescue' or variations along that theme. Hopefully you'll find a group of enthusiastic pet rescue people. There's a couple of groups near me that will go out and trap strays and foster them, also do hand-rearing of orphaned baby animals. Something that tiny will need feeding and if you're struggling you need to hand it over to someone who knows what they're doing. Or try searching for an emergency vet and ask them for contact details of local animal rescue group.

The mother may have been moving them somewhere else, but if she wasn't it may freeze to death. I've literally no idea? Sorry

Yeah I know of one wildlife rescue place which people on fb rate, unfortunately fb is currently broken or I'd be asking on there.

My friend said the 24hr vets probably won't be very interested and it's a half hour drive.

I don't have a lot of faith in the RSPCA not to just euthanase it, I doubt they will be interested at this time of night anyway.

I don't want to separate it from its mum but equally it's pissing down and blowing a gale out there.

Me neither ... But I think I've come down on the side of keeping it in the box indoors and away from the cat and seeing how it is in the morning. It's in really good health and isn't a newborn but it's eyes aren't open, I think it can be looked after and will be OK ... But by someone who isn't me!

I meant that the 24 hour vet might be able to signpost you to animal rescue people. Our local rescue group are always taking new rescues to the vet for treatment, so they have quite a good relationship. So presumably your local emergency vet will have a similarly good relationship and will know who are the local animal rescue people and will hopefully be able to point you in their direction.

Fox Rehabilitator - What to do with a baby fox I found?
If you've thinking of keeping the little cub...You'll need Puppy milk replacer which is a formula milk which can be given to baby foxes. You'll probably need to go to a vet for that tomorrow. They need feeding every 3 hours or so.

The website above really goes into detail about how to rehabilitate baby foxes...

Hope you get the little cub sorted

So I put it outside in its box and shut the cat inside and left it 10 minutes but it's really crappy weather so I brought it back in. Managed to give it a bit of milk and have put its box in the cupboard under the stairs. I put a soft toy guinea pig in with it as advised by the site I googled.

Even remembered to leave a note for dervish in the morning.

It's quite cute
