So who else's boss won't give them next Weds afternoon off?

I would've thought it was a given; a nostalgic 'Wednesday Early Closing' for the entire nation to go watch the England game.

Not on my boss' watch. Does anyone else work for a cunt?

We're having a works party, in a pub with big screen.

I don't like footy. :(

Free drinks though

I have a dilema for this. Get paid to watch it in the office or take a half day and watch it with mates.

decisions decisons.

Was talking to friends in Brazil, the match this week was at 15:00, they all got let out at 12:00...

It would never happen here... :(

We're allowed to watch as many games as we like in the office tbh. They ever open the bar up and put big screens on

It's only the sodding concalls that are a problem. Typing on your laptop is one thing, but trying to hold a conversation is another

Mine. Which is me. I'm having no slacking off on Wednesday. I shall be ready nice and early for kick off, and won't miss a second.

The best I can hope for is to smuggle some booze in and put the radio on. Unless... well I haven't totally given up. World Cup Fever may yet grip the workplace and if I keep asking nicely the boss might relent at the last gasp.

What sort of company is it?

I can understand that some companies and organisations have to carry on working regardless, but from your OP it seems as though yours isn't one of them, in which case it seems incredibly short-sighted to lose the goodwill of staff.

I'm guessing that in a lot of workplaces productivity might be so low as to not be worth bothering anyway.

Is there no room for negotiation? What about pay rises/pay freezes in the past couple of years? Have your colleagues been in that situation; if so have employees accepted with good grace being short-changed on that score? If so, it might be worth going back to the boss and saying y'know how we all accepted that 0.5 per cent payrise, well, this isn't going to cost you any money (although yeah, it will in other ways)... or what about negotiating to come in early and work through lunch?

Boss leading the charge - taking us all down the boozer, insisting we get all the clients out as early as we can, hopefully get plotted up by one o'clock.

I am free agent but may not watch the match live. I will wait for the result before deciding whether or not to watch the replay.

It is heartbreaking watching England on current form. I wish I hadn't started to take an interest.

there's one or more tellies on every desk at my work and the football has been on silently on a lot of them, but only so people can keep abreast of things. we still have to work, so people only really catch the replays if that.

er i think el sueno tried to do this and was refused. that's what taking the afternoon off is. he was never going to do it out of charity.

I'll be on a train from 3pm to 5pm on weds. On tonight's performance I think have drawn the winning ticket.

I do shift work. We have been given the 0700 to 1500 shift to allow us to see the match.
