I'm really saddened by this. She was phenomenal but troubled, so beautiful, fierce but never seemed to find herself. In my more drunk and sentimental moments I listen to Troy and Take me to church.

Some of her best stuff was the covers albums of things like "don't cry for me Argentina" she did.

I saw her live once, at a big show of African gospel choirs in the conference centre that looks like R2D2, on the quays.

It was just her and her guitar: I remember her being very quiet, and very good.

I'll never forget seeing this on a mate's tv...for six minutes a gang of rowdy, drunk punks just shut up, stunned, watching this. Her voice just explodes out of her.

Remember in 1992 she tore up a photo of the pope on live TV as a protest on the Catholic Church covering up widespread abuse of children under its roofs.
She got well castigated but she was right on the money

After Sinatra threatened to kick her ass didn't her dad say that he wouldn't be able to get his foot high enough.

As mentioned upthread she suffered with poor mental health at times.
I think she found some comfort and support in the Islamic community and converted but I don't know if she kept it up

The last few years of her life were tragic..she was devastated after her son died.
May she rest in peace now..
