SGP, the last one!

The feedback to this year's festival is pretty bad. Toilets a complete mess, rubbish not collected + rotting away everywhere, secret line up that turned out to be awful and most of the festival cordoned off for 'boutique' camping.
There's a Facebook thread where toilets is by far the main complaint and the organisers are at least holding their hands up and being very apologetic.

It was shit, people were literally forced to start shitting in hedges, rubbish was picked up but just left in bags by bins, so there were massive piles of rubbish. Lineup was bland, loads of tech house and very little else except on the main stage…… queues to get into anything vaguely interactive, half the site had been reserved for boutique camping which was apparently also shit, the posh toilets you paid for were also apparently shit, and people just started shitting in the showers which you also had to pay for.

Even the crew who worked were saying it was shit.

Oh yeah, the cashless festival didn’t have any signal, so traders couldn’t take card payments, unless they paid for the festivals wifi, which then didn’t work anyway.

The overpriced bars wouldn’t let you use the reusable cups the sold you, and the festival apparently turned round and told traders they weren’t to use reusable stuff either.

So they made you buy a new cup for each drink, even if you had kept hold of the one you had bought? Wow  . Along with the apparently strictly enforced 8 cans only rule, people must have got completely rinsed at the bars all weekend, and not in a good way.

I have to admit having a little schadenfreude that posh boy Etonian, son and heir of 'Lord de Ramsey' big old knees up on daddies massive aristocratic private estate went tits up :p. It sounds like they fucked it by greed, cutting loads of corners so badly that people fled the site early because it was one big fucking dump. They had completely sold out months ago and the weather was perfect for it. I wonder if the people saying they absolutely loved it on Facebook are chums of rich boy Freddie Fellowes aka 'Head Gardener'?

Im not sure any festival this summer has cut corners so much they have seemingly abandoned the concept of having cleaning staff, deliberately ripped punters off at the bar (more than usual) and kept the line up a 'secret' (shhhh! wink, wink) because it was so fucking bad and done on the cheap.

It will be interesting to see how Boomtown fare. They could cut many corners if they needed to on the massive production, which i expect they inevitably will to some extent. Hopefully their punters aren't too disappointed.

This was always one of the best festivals to crew.
Crew places were highly sought after and often only given to proven hard workers as a reward.
The crew bar and catering were top notch.
I think only Bestival had a better crew bar (that year they had gypsy caravans).

Sad it didn't live up to old times. Glad I was already committed to go to Abba Voyage that weekend now... when previously I'd been gutted.

I had a little investigate and it appears that 'Secret Productions', which ran SGP and Wilderness and had, among others, Freddie Fellowes on the board, ceased treading in 2019. Wilderness is now run by MAMA (a subsidy of Live Nation) so perhaps Fellowes brought back SGP on his own without the secret Productions crew and turns out didn't know his arse from his elbow about running a pretty large festival properly.

I'm going to blame the toilets on Brexit.
British people don't want shit jobs so impossible to staff adequately.

Did anyone see what the actual line up was in the end?
Headliners we’re self esteem, Kae tempest (who was pretty much the main redeeming feature), metronomy and some wank indie band.

Otherwise it was largely mediocre tech house djs with a few exceptions that you couldn’t get near because the stages were so busy with people who didn’t want to watch mediocre tech house dj’s.

Edit: London grammar were the wank indie band
