SGP, the last one!

Never done SGP before, but we've been asked to work there this year. Feel slightly disappointed that it'll the last one now we're 'in' :D

If this year's really will be the last, SGP looks like it'll be a rare festival I've never been to, and never will. Always wanted to give it a try, but dates/location/other commitments conspired against, and will this year, too.

Oh well, I could have missed worse fests, or I could even have missed some better ones! :p

full of toffs, hipsters, and people that have spent a tenner on a ballon full of noz and having a transcendental experience in their tents, by themselves.
Now go around telling kids there is no santa you joy sucking grinch.

It's full of people having a good time and being respectful of each other.

More than can be said of people like you or festivals like Reading and Leeds

I don't tend to goto festivals in this country because they are so expensive.

Also, sgp has a well known rep for being quite middle class.

Broke in a few years on the bounce starting around 2011, first year was really good. 6am license, some really decent music and a nice crowd (and yeah, lots of posh 18 year old girls with garlands in their hair talking about "MD"). In fact, the first year i went i thought it was fucking brilliant.

The more i went the less i liked it though, it got bigger and lost some of its charm, and got more well known until the poshness got too much. The last year i went, it seemed every late night stage was playing Dubstep, considering this was around 2013 it was a bit ridiculous, and finding good music became quite hard. Another gripe was they were always really on top with the alcohol allowance at he gate, any more than 12 cans you were unlikely to get through, then inside it was £5 a Tuborg. Ive never been since and will never go again.

Still, shame its ending. Im not sure why, either licensing has fucked them, they want to take the brand somewhere else (america maybe), or perhaps actually they feel its turning shit and want to remember it for what it used to be. It leaves somewhat of a gap in the market though, i bet Bestival, after their really bad year last year, must be pretty pleased.

SGP is quite middle class, but its also a great festival. However dwindling ticket sales last year, and commitments being spread elsewhere (Secret productions have a hand in a lot of events), I'm not surprised they're calling time on SGP. It had a good innings.

Loads of people on Facebook, including some of my (mostly female for some reason) friends were furiously masturbating when 'SGP' announced it was back.

I dont get it at all. Its alright but annoyingly posh and compared to Boomtown, quite cheesy music wise.

My daughter went when she was 18. There would have to be some pretty good bands on for me to go to festival after she’d been! She’d be taking the piss for ever.

It was always the best festival to do as a festival worker.

Great staff facilities. Late night bar. Good staff restaurant. Staff discounts with some vendors. Great vibe. Less scallies and remote site so tents were pretty unlikely to be robbed (unlike Bestival for instance where police saw the need to set up trap tents).

Get enough booze and/or drugs in you and the quality of the music is largely irrelevant to be honest. I've eclectic tastes so the only venue I didn't like was one playing cheesy happy house. So I went somewhere else. Nay bother.
