My boyfriend suggested that we travel to Dakkar in Senegal for our two week holiday. Has anybody from here been before? What can I expect? Is it very touristy? Any recommmendations?

Thanks muchly!

There was an article in the Guardian travel section all about Senegal a few months back. It's bound to be online.

A friend of mine got kidnapped from the airport there. Someone was waiting for him with his name on a sign, and the kidnappers just copied the name and stood in the front of the line. So my mate naturally went off with them. They let him go unharmed after stealing all his possessions.

Just reviving this thread as couldn't see any other relevant ones (lots in the football forum!)

Since 2007 has anyone got any knowledge to impart on the subject of holidays in Senegal? Things to do, places to go etc

Not done a big/interesting holiday since pre-Covid and been doing some idle googling on where might be good to go for Christmas that is not a Christian country - we made that mistake in Athens when everything shut for 3 days. Looks like it has everything required by us - warmth, museums of historical interest, a lively capital city, good food, beaches.

I worked in Dakar for a coupling days in about 2017…off-hire survey of an oil tanker, as I recall. TBH I don’t think much of the shipyard.
It looked like a city I’d have liked to spend more time in.
