Save Brixton Arches - PLEASE lodge your objection before 10th March

We've already got a long running thread about the plight of the arches in Brixton, but with the closing date for objections to Network Rail's plans being on Thursday, 10th March, but given the urgency of the situation, I felt a separate thread night be prudent.

Please lodge your objection on Lambeth’s Planning site now, and please base your objection along these lines (as suggested by the Brixton Society):

I object to this planning application in light of the following policies from the Lambeth Local Plan:

PN3: Limiting the proportion of restaurant/ bar/ takeaway uses (A3/A4/A5 use classes) in major centres. At least 60% of the units should remain mainstream retail (class A1) and Network Rail’s proposals disrupt this balance;

ED6: Seeking to retain smaller shop units and at affordable rents – Network Rail’s proposals do not meet this policy.

More: DO IT NOW! Save the Brixton Arches and lodge your objection before it’s too late (closes 10th March)

I was actually just trying so I could object and it seems to be down altogether. I used your link and then tried to get into it from the Lambeth website separately and neither way is working.

And it might be worth c&p this reference:

Application Summary

Address:

Railway Arches 571 To 609 Facing Brixton Station Road And Atlantic Road Between Brixton Road And Popes Road London Lambeth SW9

Proposal:

Refurbishment and redevelopment of railway arches between Brixton Road and Pope's Road along Brixton Station Road and Atlantic Road. Works include change of use of 9 arches and alterations to existing units to provide a mix of A1, A3 and A4 uses within 26 units and 13 kiosks; installation of new arch infills/shopfronts; creation of a new pedestrian link between Atlantic Road and Brixton Station Road through arches 577 and 604, refurbishment of the station walkthrough and associated works.

Case Officer:

Miss Magdalena Kotyza

Yeah - I nearly put one of these :hmm: in my post :D However, benefit of the doubt - I'll try later on today.
the whole Lambeth planning website is broken, included when linked from the main Lambeth page. It might be a DDOS attack by NR and it might be Lambeth attempting to limit objections, but it might also be that the sheer weight of objectors has brought it to a halt :)

I suppose an enterprising journalist should be asking some questions.

I've tweeted the council, Lambeth Labour and Jacko with my concerns

Lambeth's site crashing at such an important time really is a pain. Buzz has sent at least 250 people to the site but I guess many of those won't be able to register their thoughts. I suspect that some councillors may not be too upset by that fact.

me too. the confirmation email calls me a 'customer' ('Customer objects to the Planning Application').

Sadly, almost certainly, but it does no harm to leave a record of dissatisfaction.
Much like I'm doing my damnedest to document what's being pushed through here, and record all the broken promises and examples of Lambeth allowing developers and big business to shaft the community.

It may not stop these things happening, but when the wind changes direction - and it will eventually - we'll know who to blame.
