Sailing Thread - Yachts / Boats / Dinghies etc

I was in a nick in Liverpool a couple of years ago and got talking to a lifer who sailed a seized yacht-full of merch for a certain Mr Warren. He lost his boat, his wife and his freedom.:( Proper nice bloke too just a daft spur of the moment decision with the temptation of enough dough to see him living a modest life at sea for a while without the need to work. Now he's educating kids on how easy you can end up doing a 20 stretch. :(

Fucking hell :(

There are an awful lot of dodgy yachtsmen bringing drugs in. I try to record all the ones I hear of on this thread. Of course I would never consider such a foolish course of action :hmm:

DaveCinzano probably would though

This story was a sad one :(

Inquest jury finds that suspected drug smuggling sailor killed himself - YBW

Glad to see you back around fella :)

Must get you down to Dorset for a sail one day

There is a yacht for sale near me. I have no details about it.

Simple question, what chance would I have trying to sail around the world in something that cost £2,850? Would I die?

ps never sailed before:)

You probably wouldn't die but something would break on a boat that cheap :(

Don't worry about the not having sailed thing, you can learn as you go :)

What boat is it?

Been checking this the last couple of weeks - the videos from the skippers are just well...

We can all dream...
It's completely insane, what they are doing. Absolutely hard as nails madmen

Fingers crossed Alex Thompson wins, fucking hell he really deserves it. Mind you, just to finish is the achievement of a lifetime

I doubt he can with his foil issue*...but just watching any of it is good...It makes you admire the old school sailors even more.

*win - I think he will finish.

I went to uni with a nutter called Sam who sailed a tiny local fishing boat from Goa beach to Australia.

He was boarded by pirates some place in the south china sea and they gave him some rice and water :)

(Alas the UK was less welcoming, he got the crap kicked out of him by the boys in blue because he was insufficiently respectful to them on Brighton beach right after the IRA tried to blow up Thatcher)
