RIP Ray Liotta

Yup, just came to post :( The mob was always going to catch up with him one day :hmm:

Amazed he never hit the heights of Goodfellas again (and indeed that probably made the role more remarkable), but what an incredible performance.

As a kid, we could quote all his lines. "As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a gangster....One day, one day some kids from the local neighbourhood carried my mother's groceries all the way home. You know why?..." [cue Original Nuttah]

Not a fan of Goodfellas (or that gangster/mob genre generally), but I have certainly enjoyed his performances in other films over the years.
67 is no age these days.

He was so good in Goodfellas I think he ended up not being offered that many non-gangster roles - he said he turned down an offer to play Tony Soprano because he was tired of gangster roles wanted to concentrate on film instead of TV.

There's two other Goodfellas actors that I can think of that did Sopranos. Christopher in Sopranis is the young kid that Joe Pesci shoots because he disrespects him. That really homophobic guy in Sopranos was one of De Niros crew iirc in Goodfellas.

Most of the actors show up in Sopranos at some point. Big puss is counting furs in one scene, paulie walnuts hangs around the cab stand and Phil Leatardo is Billy Bats

I'm sure there are others but this thread is about Ray. RIP Ray

Dr Melfi is the other one that springs to mind, but it seems there was loads - Every Goodfellas Actor Who Appeared In The Sopranos

I was planning to re-watch Goodfellas at some point soon, so I guess it's quite timely now.

This is a shock, 67 is no age.
Loved his performance in Goodfellas.
By coincidence I saw him as a casino heavy in Young Sheldon a couple of weeks ago.
Excellent cameo and funny trying to put pressure on Annie Potts.
RIP

aww shite he was ace :/

“Man, I did love this game. I'd have played for food money... I used to love traveling on the trains from town to town. The hotels... brass spittoons in the lobbies, brass beds in the rooms. It was the crowd, rising to their feet when the ball was hit deep. Shoot, I'd play for nothing!”

rip Ray :(

I never really liked Goodfellows, but I find Hannibal a strangely rewatchable film despite being intensely disappointed by it in the cinema.

Loved him in Goodfellas, the part was made for him and I couldn't imagine anyone else being able to come close....... perfect.
I thought he looked a little ill in The many saints of Newark, but wasn't sure if that was the character(s) he was playing :(
I would've loved to have seen him as Ralphie Cifaretto in The Sopranos, I think he was perfect for the role, sadly wasn't to be.

R.I.P Ray 🥀

i'm just annoyed that the Hannibal movie did not bring in mason vergers body builder sister and the cattle prod

but seriously Hannibal is worse than Manhunter and even behind Red Dragon

how can you like it more than Good Fellas

Manhunter is the best of the Hannibal films, Silence of the Lambs next best.

i'm torn between Silence and Manhunter most because of Hopkins

if he was in Manhunter it would be a given

only down side of Manhunter was the slight weak lector

hate hannibal as they took a great book and turn it into shite

Jonathan Demme's Something Wild (with Liotta) is a better film than his take on Hannibal Lector. But Manhunter just is a better film, whether it's down to director Mann or Cox as the doctor, not sure...

Maybe needs to see Hannibal again, if only for Liotta.
