Question Resetting an Android phone

Is there a way of

• Factory resetting an Android 11 phone
• logging in with the same Google account post-reset
• but NOT reinstalling all the apps at this point??

I want to cleanse the device and start again but just install what I really need or only reinstall when I want to actually use summat

Is this possible - does the set-up process ask you about installing apps connected to the Google account or does it just automagically start installing everything again?

You don't have to reinstall everything and it doesn't do it automatically, but you can ask it too. Had to reset a few times recently.

Also make sure you have all your passwords etc. I managed to lock myself out my Google account for a few days and it was really messed up as I couldn't get through 2-factor authentication. It was quite stressful and has made me move some storage (photos) away from Google as they have zero customer service.

It's a bit of a ball ache isn't it? They used to sync nicely with Drive on the PC and so could easily be backed up, but that feature has been taken away.
