Real ale pub crawl around Brixton

editor

hiraethified
I'm working on putting together a real ale pub crawl around Brixton.

I'm thinking the best place to start would be the Craft Bar on account of its great ales but less-than-warm ambience, and (rather obviously) ending up at the Crown And Anchor.

Filling in those two points, I'm thinking of including the Beehive as that always has a decent selection of ales, as does the Trinity. The Grosvenor seems a logical penultimate stopping off point.

The Florence, Commercial and Regent in Herne Hill are all a bit off track (although they could be included in a second pub crawl) so are there any other pubs in the central Brixton area that could be considered for ale-loving types?

Not central, but EPT usually has four or five well kept ales on tap these days...

That would definitely have to be included in a second tour as it's a fair way out. What's the Crown & Sceptre like for ales these days?

The Hand In Hand isn't exactly big on ales, so are there any others up there I could consider for Tour #2?

The Queens Head has real Ale and cider, as does the Duke Of Ed, if you were to include the Duke you could use the footbridge and hit the Landor before heading down to the Grosvenor and the C and A. FWIW Id rather finish up in either the Queens or the Grosvenor cos theyre closer to my gaff and more social than the C and A

I did a bit of research tonight at the Crown and Anchor.

Editor I thought you were a lager man. Also someone mentioned a pub called the Crown and Spectre. Don't they mean Crown and Sceptre which is a much more usual name for a pub? I have never been to Brixton so have no idea of the facts of this case.

It's the Crown and Sceptre. I like real ale too.

Great work. You could fit the Marquis of Lorne in there too and make it 6 pubs.

6 pubs is the perfect amount for an afternoon's drinking. ;)
Good idea, but unfortunately the Marquis doesn't sell real ale. Unless you count Bass or John Smiths. (Which I certainly don't!)

I love the Marquis. I love the Albert. But neither are what I'd call real ale pubs.

Ah, sorry. It's been a long time since I was in there last. Didn't realise it was before I started on the real ale! :D

I think I'd have to include this pub if I did that crawl, though tbh.
