I know - it is hard to get your head round (or at least is for us being relatively young). My gran was born in 1904 so when she died in 1997 she'd seen a huge amount of change and upheaval - two world wars, the NHS being born, the end of the empire, rise in car usage, rise of the supermarkets, ending of capital punishment, sexual liberation, invention of television, etc.
