nowt much to tell....was in the leather clad era (his not mine...).....was very much the arrogant prick towards those around him, luckily I dipped below his radar...

Translation: you were Kate Moss' boyfriend, and Bobby got jealous. :D

Gillespie is a dick. I've met him (briefly) and a mate of mine has spent a little more time with him. The same conclusion was reached.

One of their most underrated compositions was, I feel, the 'Trainspotting' theme.

An anomaly.

I didn't even realise that was them!!

I don't see how it's under- rated though... Hardly a dancefloor filler.

seems pre screamadelica has all but been written out of history. Loved the soft underbelly of their sub byrdsian clatter where a polka dot collar & pointed toe cap could change the world, the slow sad dark stuff 'dead skin to me now', 'just too dark to care' 'higher than the sun' their cover of 'so sad about us' plus no-one's mentioned the love that dare not speak its name... velocity girl.

Maybe it's an age thing.

Happy to divorce the singer from the song.

Just before the boards went wobbly, someone posted about Gillespie turning up at Elton John's wedding.

Surely not?

Yep, he did (I read it in Uncut or NME I think). His missus is something big in the world of fashion apparently and must know Elton or David Furnish.

Hey, you're right!

And I think I replied to it too. Both posts seem to have disappeared in the chaos.

Oh well. :D

i haven't seen them live since 1986 - but they were quite good then.

I liked Screamadelica too.

After that I kind of lost interest.

"Velocity Girl" still stands up as one of the greatest Indie tracks ever though

He may be a tosser but Bobby Gillespie does give great interviews..
"Don't you support Hamas?"
"No,i support celtic."
:D

not crap - but that was CLOSE.

let's face it, it's Bobby Gillespie's record collection on display and that's about it.

i always WANT to love them, but end up just loving them for trying (and failing) to sound like all the right people

In fairness, at their best they sound like inspired collaborations between "the right people": it's pretty inspired, for example, to reimagine DAF with Curtis Mayfield singing, as in "Kill all Hippies"...

Load of arse.

Even seminal 90's groovesters The Farm had more talent.

To me they just sound like an overhyped overaged indieband attempting to live up to the hype of yesteryear.

Without the backing vocal that skinny fuckwit Mani couldn't hit a single note.

Ian Brown shit him ten years ago and he still shits him now.

It's the Mancunian-strength Ex-Lax that helps.

Saw them at a festival in 2023 - they were very good. Very much a festival freindly "greatest hits" show - but done well and with genunine enthusiasm. Some cracking tunes.

I've known Innes since circa 1981. Lovely guy and one of the best guitarists ever. Over the years the Primals have been at least 4 of my favourite bands. Some of the albums are sort of meh. Others are all time greats. At least they don't release the same damn song over and over again with a different title.

Like "Loaded" is a remix of "I'm Losing More than I'll Ever Have"?

I saw them last month support Alice Cooper and they put on a really good gig. I had no complaints.
