Pleasure in British culture - medieval festivals to raves

Perhaps if you read more about the 19th century and stopped posting nonsense about it fewer people would pull you up on the shite you're spouting
You don't even need to open a book to avoid this particular cobblers tbh. It's hard to find a natural history programme on the tellybox that doesn't reference the Victorians.

You might find this book interesting:
Decency and Disorder: Amazon.co.uk: Ben Wilson: 9780571224692: Books
Though there has been some controversy about it - the young historian who wrote it drew on his university tutor's work and failed to acknowledge it. But still, might be up your street.
Just coming back to report that this is a really great read. I'd highly recommend it to anyone - a really good balance of evidenced history and readability.

Sadly it has a really weirdly conservative conclusion in the last few pages that doesn't really fit with the rest of the book, but you can ignore that. A lot of it is about the history of supressing pleasures and 'vices'. It makes it clear that 'Victorian' morality didn't come about by accident - there were individuals with influence driving it.
